¬ GENERAL ANNOUNCEMENTS

Pink Shirt Day: Feb.22

TOMORROW (WEDNESDAY) Feb 22 is Pink Shirt Day. Please support Claremont's commitment to a bully-free environment by wearing and ‘thinking’ pink. Let’s join together and visibly show our support for a more inclusive, accepting and compassionate society. Practice kindness and wear pink to symbolize that you do not tolerate bullying.

 

Encourage kids to READ

Come to the Learning Commons, grab a bookmark and colour them - then we'll send them to Lochside and Cordova Bay Elementary students. Choose from a variety of designs.

 

After School Homework Club

For all students who would like extra help in academic classes, help from Education Assistants is available four days a week (MONDAY-THURSDAY) for one hour after school in room 235. All academic subjects are welcome, but especially if you are struggling in Math & Science. This is open to all students in all grades.

 

Breakfast Club

The Breakfast Club is running on TUESDAY and THURSDAY mornings (before block 1) at the Spartan Store.  All students are welcome to come by for a bagel (with choice of spreads) and a juice box. Items are $.25 each.

Girls Soccer

There will be girls soccer tryouts for both Junior and Senior Girls Soccer on WEDNESDAY and THURSDAY this week after school on the lower field off of Claremont.

 

Sr Girls Basketball

Congratulations to the Senior Girls Basketball Team on becoming the Island Champions… the 3rd year in a row for the Spartans!!!!!!!   

Big congrats to all girls!!   Adia PYE led the team, averaging 31 pts per night over the weekend and was named Island MVP (for the 2nd year in a row!).

Special mention to 2^nd team all star Emily STOCKS and grade 10 first team all stars    Iva KALABRIC and Carys CLARKE.  Next up… Provincials!!  Go Spartans!!

 

¬ CLUBS

New: Board Games Club

Are you looking for something fun to do at lunch time?  Come check out the new Board Games Club on THURSDAYS at lunch in room 324.  Board games are provided.  Everyone welcome; join us solo or bring a friend!

 

Key Club – in Need of Old T-Shirts

The Key Club is making DIY dog toys for the Broken Promises Rescue Centre, and needs 100% cotton, clean T-shirts in ALL colours and sizes. Drop-off is at the front office, and TOMORROW (WEDNESDAY) is our deadline. Your help is much appreciated!

Grad Spirit Week

For all grade 12’s participating in Spirit Week: come show off your crazy bags at the front of the school for a group photo. This photo will be taken during lunch time at 12pm TODAY.

 

Grad Fundraiser:  Krispy Kreme Donuts – March 4

Krispy Kreme Donuts will be on sale on SATURDAY March 4^th, 11:00-3:00, at 2 locations: Royal Oak Plaza (Co-Op) and Broadmead Plaza (Canadian Tire) and we are also doing PRE-SALES.  Parents, we need your help as well with selling the donuts with the students.  More info about organizing pre-sales is HERE. Grad Fundraiser: Purdy’s Easter Chocolates

It is never too early to think about chocolate!  From now until March 20th, you can order Purdy’s treats from our fundraiser by joining our campaign and browsing the tastiest selection of Easter chocolates online. More info about chocolates is HERE.         Thank you for your continued support.

 

Grad Fundraiser:  Ongoing Bottle Drive

An easy way to support the 2023 Grad Class is by donating empty bottles and beverage containers throughout the school year until June at the Bottle Depot location at Glanford/Quadra.  Account name is “Claremont Grad 2023.” Thank you for supporting the grad class of 2023.

Island Health – Feb.21

An Employment Recruiter from Island Health will be visiting Claremont TODAY at lunch time in the student lounge.  This is a chance to hear about their casual positions in food services and housekeeping.  Positions are available on weekends and during summer break, and are open to students in Grades 10 -12. 

 

Criminal Justice Info Session – March 1

Camosun College is hosting a Criminal Justice Information Session!  There will be over 40 Community and Criminal Justice organizations attending. This informal event provides the opportunity for students to meet one on one to learn about the agencies, their roles and responsibilities, and career information.

Island Health is hiring people aged 16-17 for part-time work, $17/hr.  As a Minor Test Shopper, you participate in conducting compliance checks for Tobacco & Vapour Prevention and Control, attempting to buy products from retailers. Summer Employment with Saanich School District

Grade 12 Students: The Saanich School District #63 will be hiring summer staff in the Custodial Department!  Full-time, union positions will be available from the end of June until end of August, with the opportunity for continuing employment.  Earn competitive wages vs. minimum wage.  You must have your own transportation, and you must be a graduate by the end of June. ¬ NEWS FROM CLAREMONT PAC

Annual District Parent Information Evening: Feb.23

The Saanich School District is hosting its annual District Parent Information Evening at Bayside Middle School, this THURSDAY Feb. 23 from 7-8:30 pm. CPAC will have 3 people attend.  Trustees, school and district administration will also be in attendance.  Thank you for other parents who will be attending.  

Join the Indigenous Education staff in a guided session with the Indigenous Peoples Atlas of Canada.  Important topics such as treaties and residential schools are covered in-depth, as well as the contributions of Indigenous Peoples, their oral traditions and land-based knowledge.

 

PAC Fundraiser: Country Grocer Receipts

Here is an easy way to support your PAC year-round. Save your Country Grocer receipts and bring them to the school front office. We appreciate your participation in this fundraiser which will benefit our school community with up to $2000 in grocery gift cards.

As parents, we struggle with balancing our children’s time spent in the digital world and what we consider the real world. It’s not easy to know how much time spent on technology is too much and how to set boundaries that don’t create conflict. Join us for a conversation with Dr. Kristy Goodwin, Digital Wellbeing and Productivity Researcher, Speaker, Author and Consultant to learn some practical solutions to our everyday concerns and challenges around our kids’ use of screens and their mental health.

Peninsula Youth Clinic

The Peninsula Youth Clinic is located at 2379 Bevan Avenue in Sidney and is open every THURSDAY from 5:30-7:30pm for help with any medical concern (physical, mental, and sexual health). Call 250-656-4143 to make an appointment with a physician or counsellor.  Services are 100% free, confidential, and explicitly inclusive of all genders and sexualities!
