From the Claremont PAC: Staff Appreciation Lunch – May 10
To recognize the hard work of teachers, support staff, and admin at our awesome school, CPAC is planning a Taco Bar Staff Appreciation Luncheon on WEDNESDAY, May 10th! “Fill Buck’s Truck” Food Drive: Block 1 Competition May 1-5
Let’s kick off May with a school-wide Spartan Spirit challenge! Claremont will be having a food drive from May 1-5 in Block 1. Food donations will be collected in your block 1 classes (1 point for every 1 food item). Classes will keep track of their points and bring their food donations to…. Mr. Buckham’s truck! Our campaign is "Fill Buck's Truck!" Mr. Buckham is going to park his truck outside of the student lounge for the week and we are going to fill it up with food donations! We are donating to the Mustard Seed who was recently impacted by a fire. The winning class gets a breakfast party during Block 1, bragging rights, and an Element badge for the winning TEACHER/EA! Let’s show our spirit, Spartans!!
Blood Donor Clinic – May 15
Help save lives, Spartans. Claremont is hosting a blood donation clinic on MONDAY, May 15th in the small gym. Students must be at least 17yrs old to donate. Take the eligibility quiz at blood.ca and if you are eligible, sign up on the "GiveBlood" app. See the posters around the school or see Ms Chapman in room 136 for more information.
School Bus Registration For 2023-2024
Online school bus registration for next school year is open. To register, you will need your Student #. Registration link is on the Saanich School District website or HERE.
After School Homework Club
For all students who would like extra help in academic classes, help from Education Assistants is available four days a week (MONDAY-THURSDAY) for one hour after school in room 235. All academic subjects are welcome, but especially if you are struggling in Math & Science. This is open to all students in all grades.

Musical Theatre “The SpongeBob Musical”: May 25 – June 3
Who lives in a pineapple under the sea?? Coming soon: the Claremont Musical Theatre program will be presenting the fun and family-friendly, “The SpongeBob Musical.” Tickets are on sale now! This musical runs from May 25-27 and May 31-June 3; shows will be 7pm nightly, plus Saturday matinees at 1pm. Running time, with intermission, will be approximately 2 hours and 20 minutes.
Tickets will be sold ONLINE, with limited availability at the door for cash sales only. All tickets are $15 plus service charge.

Spartan 3-Point Shootout
The first ever Spartan 3-Point Shootout starts TODAY at lunch in the Big Gym. There are 16 competitors, including a couple of teachers, who are signed up and ready to compete for the title of "Claremont's Best 3-Point Shooter. Come by to watch the action!
TC10k Run
Good luck to all of the Claremont students and staff who are taking part in the TC10k event this Sunday. Wishing you all a great run or walk in the sun!!

Key Club: Childrens’ Books Donation Drive April 17-28
TODAY is the final day for the Key Club’s book donation drive to support the 1000x5 childrens’ literacy program. We are collecting gently used picture books, suitable for ages infant to kindergarten. Donations will be accepted at the office until the end of TODAY. Thank you to everyone who brought in books.
YCI: Bake Sale April 26-28
TODAY is the final day for YCI’s bake sale. All proceeds will go to the Victoria Sexual Assault Centre and the Women's Transition House Society, in support of Sexual Assault Awareness Month. Bring a loonie to the Learning Commons at lunch to buy a tasty treat and support an important cause!

Grad Fundraiser: Spring Flower Baskets – Pickup is May 10
Reminder that the Mother’s Day/Spring Flowers Baskets will be available for pickup on WEDNESDAY, May 10th between 2:45 and 3:45pm. Please come around the back of the school to pick up your orders. Please note: these baskets are for the families that pre-ordered (through grad or lacrosse).
Grad Fundraiser: Ongoing Bottle Drive
An easy way to support the 2023 Grad Class is by donating empty bottles and beverage containers throughout the school year until June at the Bottle Depot location at Glanford/Quadra. Account name is “Claremont Grad 2023.” Thank you for supporting the grad class of 2023.

Edison College Canada – May 2
Edison College Canada is a local college in Victoria, focusing on Visual Arts, Healthcare and Business programs. Come to the info session to learn more about their admissions, and programs, including: Animation, Fine Arts, Hospitality & Tourism, Medical Lab Assistant, Dental and Medical Office Administrator, Community Support Worker, and more! TUESDAY, May 2 at lunch in the Student Lounge.
St. Francis Xavier University – May 3
A representative from St. Francis Xavier University will be visiting Claremont to talk about their programs, admissions, and life in Nova Scotia! WEDNESDAY, May 3 at lunch in the Student Lounge.
Island Camp Ignite: July 7-9
Island Ignite Camp is happening this summer in Victoria, July 7-9th! This FREE camp is an amazing mentorship opportunity for young women (grades 11 & 12), regardless if they are interested in a career in emergency services, or not. The program focuses on challenging and empowering participants with team building activities and fire ground tasks, skills and drills, led by an amazing group of volunteers from across the fire-fighting service. SD63 Hairstylist Program
Did you know School District 63 has its own Hair Salon? You can book your haircuts, styles, and scalp massages starting on April 11, at Studio 63, where students from the SD63/VIU Hairstylist Program perform their skills and services. 250-652-5381 for appointments. Summer Employment with Saanich School District
Grade 12 Students: The Saanich School District #63 will be hiring summer staff in the Custodial Department! Full-time, union positions will be available from the end of June until end of August, with the opportunity for continuing employment. Earn competitive wages vs. minimum wage. You must have your own transportation, and you must be a graduate by the end of June. For more information, see Mrs. Watson in office 222, or email her at cwatson@saanichschools.ca.
30 Hours of Work Experience/Volunteering
30 Hours of Work Experience OR Volunteering are required for Graduation. Hours can be counted from any grade. See Mrs. Watson in room 222 to find out how to confirm your 30 hours. If you're not working, there are lots of ideas for looking into Volunteerism. You can discuss ideas with Mrs. Watson and she can point out a list of possibility volunteer opportunities.

“Collaborative and Proactive Solutions” Virtual Presentation – May 4
Dr. Ross Greene will speak about how Collaborative and Proactive Solutions can help us show our kids we care about them. Solving problems together creates connection and allows our children to be a part of finding solutions to what is causing their concerning behaviour. Dr. Greene’s work reminds us that things go better for everyone, when we solve problems together and that kids do well if they can.

Peninsula Youth Clinic
The Peninsula Youth Clinic is located at 2379 Bevan Avenue in Sidney and is open every THURSDAY from 5:30-7:30pm for help with any medical concern (physical, mental, and sexual health). Call 250-656-4143 to make an appointment with a physician or counsellor. Services are 100% free, confidential, and explicitly inclusive of all genders and sexualities!
