Hallo-week: Oct.24-31

This is Hallo-week at Claremont!! We have lots of fun element challenges, prizes and theme days coming up, so please check out our instagram @claremontsd63 to sign up!

TODAY is the last day to buy candy grams. They are for sale at lunch in the Student Lounge. $2 each. Buy a sweet treat for a friend!!

TODAY is Black & Orange theme day.  It is great to see so much theme spirit with many students and staff!

MONDAY Oct. 31 – Halloween costume at lunch time!

 

ScreamFest: Oct.25-27

TONIGHT is the last night to attend "SCREAMFEST.”  5:30 to 9:00pm.  Tickets are on sale at the Accounting office (cash or debit only for pre-event tickets). Tickets are $10 per person or $30 for families of 4+.  Ticket includes event entry, a chance to win contests, draws & door prizes, plus 5 coupons for access to the famous Haunted Walk or for use at the midway games or food at the BBQ and concession. Bring cash to buy extra coupons to enjoy all of the attractions!!

For planning your visit to the Haunted Walk:

6:00-7:30 is ‘SPOOKY’ for the younger visitors.

8:00-9:00 is ‘SCARY’ for the braver visitors.

 

Literacy & Numeracy

The next Literacy & Numeracy Assessments take place on November 4^th.  A list has been posted by the front entrance of the school of students who need to sign up for the Numeracy 10 Assessment.  If your name is on that list, please see Mrs. Watson to sign up.

 

Zero Café

The Zero Cafè is officially open in the IGS Room (264) before school (8:30-8:55) and at lunch every day of the week.  Your favourite drinks are here: ice coffees, Caramel Lattes, Cappuccinos, Americanos, etc, etc, etc. We now have TAP for easy payments with debit and credit cards. Please pop down and check us out!

 

Gender Generation Retreat – Oct.28-30

Gender Generations has a retreat from October 28-30^th. Their goal for this retreat is to focus on creating a mural. While the focus will be on building the skills to design and create a mural, there will also be other sessions for folks to attend that span a broader range of topics as well as provide a safe space to connect and converse with other Trans, Non-Binary, Two Spirit, and Gender Diverse folks!

Students: Check your School Email

Reminder for all students to check their School District email. Information and reminders are sent to your school email on a regular basis regarding course changes, registration, events, and other topics.

 

Breakfast Club

The Breakfast Club is running on TUESDAY and THURSDAY mornings (before block 1) at the Spartan Store.  All students are welcome to come by for a bagel (with choice of spreads) and a juice box. Items are $.25 each. 

 

After School Homework Club

For all students who would like extra help in academic classes, help from Education Assistants is available four days a week (MONDAY-THURSDAY) for one hour after school in room 235. All academic subjects are welcome, but especially if you are struggling in Math & Science. This is open to all students in all grades.

Dual Credit Course: Early Learning & Care Program

Are you interested in making a difference in the lives of children? Perhaps considering a career as an Early Childhood Educator?  Camosun has an Early Learning and Care Program starting in February.  This is a dual-credit program, which gives you the certification to be an ELC Assistant. See Mr. Bussoli with questions or to sign up.

 

HighTechU: Careers in the Digital Era – Oct.27 - CANCELLED

Unfortunately, the HighTechU presentation that was booked for TODAY at lunch time has been cancelled.  Hopefully this presentation will be rescheduled for a later date. 

 

UVic Info Session – Oct.28

UVic is hosting a presentation geared towards Grade 12 students (Grade 11’s can benefit from the information as well), covering general UVic topics, including: co-op and academic opportunities, application & admission processes, awards, student services, upcoming events, etc. Presentation is TOMORROW (FRIDAY) at lunch in the Learning Commons.

 

U of Alberta – Nov.3

An advisor from the University of Alberta will be at Claremont to share information about U of A's programs, application processes, and other topics related to Post Secondary school in Edmonton, Alberta!  THURSDAY, Nov. 3 at lunch time in the Learning Commons.

 

Job Opportunities

Broadmead Care is looking for day and afternoon staff within our facilities for Food Service (hours 7:00-3:00, 3:15-7:15, 4:00-7:00, Housekeeping (7:00-3:00, 3:15-11:15), and Screening (5:30-1:00, 11-4, 12-8, 8-4).  They have 5 care homes from Sidney to James Bay, with our Royal Oak Lodge being the biggest.

Canadian Tire at Royal Oak is looking for energetic students who would like a part time job. We are looking for cashiers and floor staff for all departments (Automotive, Housewares, Hardware and Sports/Seasonal). Hours are flexible, but new hires are asked to work one weekend day shift and one night shift. Studio 63 Hair Studio & Food Bank Donations

Did you know that School District #63 has its own Hairstylist training program?  Studio 63 offers Hairdressing training in partnership with Vancouver Island University.  Studio 63 is located at the Saanichton Learning Centre, 1649 Mt Newton X Rd.

From Oct.24 – Dec. 1, Studio 63 is hosting a canned food drive in conjunction with their hair studio services, to support our local food bank. 

Basic Haircut - $2 with canned food donation.

Shampoo, Cut & Style - $5 with canned food donation.

Peninsula Youth Clinic

The Peninsula Youth Clinic is located at 2379 Bevan Avenue in Sidney and is open every THURSDAY from 5:30-7:30pm for help with any medical concern (physical, mental, and sexual health). Call 250-656-4143 to make an appointment with a physician or counsellor.  Services are 100% free, confidential, and explicitly inclusive of all genders and sexualities!
