¬ GENERAL ANNOUNCEMENTS

“Fill Buck’s Truck” Food Drive:  May 1-5

 Block 1 Competition

Claremont’s food drive runs all this week!!  Food donations will be collected in your block 1 classes (1 point for every 1 food item).  Classes will keep track of their points and bring their food donations to…. Mr. Buckham’s truck!  Our campaign is "Fill Buck's Truck!"  Mr. Buckham’s truck is parked in the student lounge for the week and we are going to fill it up with food donations!  We are donating to the Mustard Seed who was recently impacted by a fire. The winning class gets a breakfast party during Block 1, bragging rights, and an Element badge for the winning TEACHER/EA!  Let’s show our spirit, Spartans!!  Note: if you don’t have a block 1 class, donations can be brought to the office.

 

Blood Donor Clinic – May 15

Help save lives, Spartans. Claremont is hosting a blood donation clinic on MONDAY, May 15th in the small gym.  Students must be at least 17yrs old to donate.  Take the eligibility quiz at blood.ca and if you are eligible, sign up on the "GiveBlood" app.  See the posters around the school or see Ms Chapman in room 136 for more information. 

 

From the Claremont PAC: Staff Appreciation Lunch – May 10 

To recognize the hard work of teachers, support staff, and admin at our awesome school, CPAC is planning a Taco Bar Staff Appreciation Luncheon on WEDNESDAY, May 10th!  Please help us celebrate our amazing Claremont staff. School Bus Registration For 2023-2024

Online school bus registration for next school year is open.  To register, you will need your Student #.  Registration link is on the Saanich School District website or HERE.

 

After School Homework Club

For all students who would like extra help in academic classes, help from Education Assistants is available four days a week (MONDAY-THURSDAY) for one hour after school in room 235. All academic subjects are welcome, but especially if you are struggling in Math & Science. This is open to all students in all grades.

 

¬ FINE ARTS

Musical Theatre “The SpongeBob Musical”:  May 25 – June 3

Who lives in a pineapple under the sea??  Coming soon: the Claremont Musical Theatre program will be presenting the fun and family-friendly, “The SpongeBob Musical.”  Tickets are on sale now!  This musical runs from May 25-27 and May 31-June 3; shows will be 7pm nightly, plus Saturday matinees at 1pm.  Tickets are sold ONLINE, with limited availability at the door for cash sales only. All tickets are $15 plus service charge

Rugby Fundraiser: BBQ May 4

The girls and boys rugby teams are running a fundraising BBQ TOMORROW (THURSDAY) May 4 at lunchtime.  Please support us as we make our final push to the Provincial championships in Abbotsford.  Burgers, drinks, and snacks will be on sale outside of the student lounge.

Grad Fundraiser: Silent Auction May 7-10

Our final and most anticipated grad fundraiser is just around the corner!  Bidding goes live this SUNDAY, May 7 at 7pm and closes WEDNESDAY, May 10 at 9pm. You need to create an Account on 32actions in order to view and bid on items. If you create an account now, you can view items and get ready to start bidding May 7th!!!  Winning Bidders will be able to pay and pick up their items on SATURDAY, May 13 at Claremont between 11-1. Grad Fundraiser: Spring Flower Baskets – Pickup is May 10

Reminder that the Mother’s Day/Spring Flowers Baskets will be available for pickup on WEDNESDAY, May 10th between 2:45 and 3:45pm.  Please come around the back of the school to pick up your orders.  Please note: these baskets are for the families that pre-ordered (through grad or lacrosse).

 

Grad Fundraiser:  Ongoing Bottle Drive

An easy way to support the 2023 Grad Class is by donating empty bottles and beverage containers throughout the school year until June at the Bottle Depot location at Glanford/Quadra.  Account name is “Claremont Grad 2023.” Thank you for supporting the grad class of 2023.

 

¬ CAREER CENTRE

Women in Trades & Trades

The recent Women in Technology & Trades field trip to Camosun was a huge success. Claremont Secondary Students and other students from SD63 were welcomed with open arms and provided with a day of exciting hands-on learning in various departments of technology and trades. Opportunities for exploration included Electrical, Culinary, Computer Science, Electronics, Sheet Metal, Automotive, Camosun Innovates and Mechanical Engineering. Right now, women make up only 5% of the trades force, but the BC Government has a goal to increase that to 20%.  Here is a newsletter from the recent Women in Trades & Technology event at Camosun College:  WITT Newsletter.

 

St. Francis Xavier University – TODAY

A representative from St. Francis Xavier University will be visiting Claremont TODAY to talk about their programs, admissions, and life in Nova Scotia!  Drop by at lunch in the Student Lounge.

 

Job Opportunities

NEW – A Claremont neighbour is looking for a student to do seasonal, part-time, light yard work.  Minimum wage for a 2-hour minimum gardening day. Preferable that you have your own vehicle to haul garden debris. Duties include dead-heading rhodos, replacing potting soil in plant pots, sweeping the house decks, etc.  See Mrs. Watson in room 222 or email her at cwatson@saanichschools.ca for more information.

Summer Employment with Saanich School District

Grade 12 Students: The Saanich School District #63 will be hiring summer staff in the Custodial Department!  Full-time, union positions will be available from the end of June until end of August, with the opportunity for continuing employment.  Earn competitive wages vs. minimum wage.  You must have your own transportation, and you must be a graduate by the end of June. 30 Hours of Work Experience/Volunteering

30 Hours of Work Experience OR Volunteering are required for Graduation. Hours can be counted from any grade. See Mrs. Watson in room 222 to find out how to confirm your 30 hours. If you're not working, there are lots of ideas for looking into Volunteerism.  You can discuss ideas with Mrs. Watson and she can point out a list of possibility volunteer opportunities.

“Collaborative and Proactive Solutions” Virtual Presentation – May 4

Dr. Ross Greene will speak about how Collaborative and Proactive Solutions can help us show our kids we care about them. Peninsula Youth Clinic

The Peninsula Youth Clinic is located at 2379 Bevan Avenue in Sidney and is open every THURSDAY from 5:30-7:30pm for help with any medical concern (physical, mental, and sexual health). Call 250-656-4143 to make an appointment with a physician or counsellor.  Services are 100% free, confidential, and explicitly inclusive of all genders and sexualities!
