¬ GENERAL ANNOUNCEMENTS

NEW – Green Shirt Day – April 10

As part of a PEP leadership initiative, and in support of the BC Transplant Organization and Humbolt Broncos player Logan Boulet, we are asking everyone to participate in wearing a green shirt TOMORROW (WEDNESDAY) April 10. There will be a table in the lounge at lunch where you can gather more information on this cause, as well as grab some free cookies.

 

Denim Day April 12

Our next school-wide theme day is THIS FRIDAY: DENIM DAY! Wear your favourite jeans or jean jacket. There will be an Elements competition to see who can wear the most denim. Send a photo to Ms Giordano to enter.

 

Dual Credit TEAC 105

This is a reminder to those students interested in TEAC 105.   Please complete your Step 1 - Camosun Application Form and Step 2 - Registration Payment ASAP.   No form, no payment = no seat.  If you are still not in the Google Classroom, please come see Mr. Bussoli in the Career Center (Rm 217) to get your code.

 

New School Bus Registration Information

If you plan to ride the school bus next year, there is new information about registration and fees.  Please see all information on the SD63 website Transportation page: saanichschools.ca/resources/studentsfamilies/transportation.  

 

Yearbooks : Deadline To Order is April 15

Have you ordered your yearbook?  The deadline to order and pay is April 15th.   If you are unsure as to whether you have ordered a yearbook, please check with Ms. Waller in the Accounting office THIS WEEK.  Don’t wait.  Lots of students wait until it is too late to buy a yearbook, then they are disappointed in June when they are sold out.

 

After School Homework Club

For all students who would like extra help in academic classes, help from Education Assistants is available four days a week (MONDAY-THURSDAY) for one hour after school in room 235. All academic subjects are welcome, but especially if you are struggling in Math & Science. This is open to all students in all grades.

NEW - Girls Lacrosse – Bottle Drive Saturday April 13

The girls’ lacrosse program is having a bottle drive THIS SATURDAY April 13, 9:00-2:00.  They will be at the front of the school in the bus loop.  This is a great chance to get rid of your empties. Thank you for your support.

YCI - Crafting With a Cause

The YCI Club calls all Claremont crafters to help make things for their Fundraiser this April. All proceeds will go to the Women’s Transition House to raise sexual assault awareness. All willing, please join the YCI Club on WEDNESDAYS at lunch in room 324. Please bring any crafting supplies needed.

 

Knitting & Crocheting Club

The Knitting and Crochet Club meets every THURSDAY at lunch in room 323.  Beginners are welcome and we have lots of supplies and yarn if you have a project in mind.  If you know how to crochet (or would like to learn), consider joining us this term in making 60 flower granny squares to be sewn into a patchwork quilt to be donated to Blankets for Canada.

¬ GRAD 2024

Mandatory Grad Assembly April 11 (Block 2)

Reminder that all grade 12's are required to attend a grad assembly THIS THURSDAY April 11 in block 2 (please note time change). Mark your calendars!!  This assembly will provide all details about graduation: how to know if you are eligible to cross the stage, criteria for completion of courses at SIDES or ILC, grad ceremony, grad dinner/dance, how to get TICKETS (and how many tickets), deadlines, plus you will be provided with all of the necessary paperwork. If you have a spare or if you are not usually at Claremont for block 2, please make arrangements to attend this important assembly.

 

Scholarships – Application Deadline April 30

Attention Grads: The District and Schools Scholarships Application Portal is now open.  Over $60,000 in scholarships and bursaries are available to grade 12s planning to enter post-secondary institutions.  Applications will be accepted online until April 30th.  To apply, go to the Scholarships page on the Claremont website.  Detailed information about each scholarship can be found there, as well in the District and School Scholarships Handbook.

 

Magic Wand

Hey Grads! The Magic Wand is a non-profit organization that offers an inexpensive and eco-friendly alternative to grad outfits for any students. This is a great opportunity to borrow, rather than buy, a complete special outfit for graduation. The only cost to the student is a small fee which covers the cost of cleaning.  Please contact Elizabeth Suresus to view her selection of grad dresses, suits, tuxedos, shoes, and accessories.

Grad 2024 Fundraiser – Call for Online Auction Items

From April 11-26, the grads of 2024 are holding an online silent auction to support the Class of 2024's dinner & dance at the end of June. Job Opportunity

Elk Lake Garden Centre is looking for 1 or 2 students to work weekends until the end of the school year, and possibly into the summer. 

Main duties include: helping customers with taking purchases to their vehicles, wagon returns, soil carry outs.

Other duties may include: stocking shelves, gathering flats, pricing plants.

Are you a girl entering Grade 11 or 12 next year, and you love MATH?  Then apply for IMAGINING UVic (Inspiring Mathematical Growth and Intuition in Girls)!  At this summer camp, you'll learn new and exciting math concepts which go beyond the BC curriculum. Participants will also have various opportunities to interact with professors and graduate students in mathematics.  All interested students must apply by April 19 in order to be considered. Workshop: Mental Health & Technology – April 9

COPACS has a great line-up of parent and family workshops coming in the next few weeks. We’re sharing out the details for the first session:  Mental Health & Technology: Help kids disconnect from toxic tech & reconnect with real life.

COPACS is pleased to invite all Saanich School parents to this informative evening with Elyse Cochrane of Future Ready Minds as she dives into concerns around tech addiction in children and youth, social media influence and much more (see poster attached for more details)

Peninsula Youth Clinic

The Peninsula Youth Clinic is located at 2379 Bevan Avenue in Sidney and is open every THURSDAY from 5:30-7:30pm for help with any medical concern (physical, mental, and sexual health). Call 250-656-4143 to make an appointment with a physician or counsellor.  Services are 100% free, confidential, and explicitly inclusive of all genders and sexualities!
