TURKEY AND SYRIA – Upcoming Survive Drive
Following the recent devastating earthquake in Turkey, the people of Turkey and Syria are suffering deeply. Cities are destroyed, there are over 35,000 deaths, and there are countless injured. The waiting and suffering are catastrophic.
Claremont will be having a Survive Drive soon. Stay tuned for details. Our first initiative comes from the IGS Zero Café: presently, all proceeds from purchases at the Zero Café will go to raise funds to help this important cause. Thank you for your support.
TC10K – Spartan Team
Calling all runners, walkers, joggers, students and staff for the annual TC10K! The school team has been created. If you are thinking about running/walking in the event, go to the TC10K website, select “Claremont Spartans” from the drop-down menu, and add yourself to the school team. Registration deadline is TODAY! Let’s go Spartans!
Cancer Research Internship Program – Info Feb.15
The Xavier Pelletier High School Internship Program (HSIP) is an 8-week summer program that runs from July-August each summer at the BC Cancer Agency’s Trev and Joyce Deeley Research Center in Victoria. This program offers Grade 11 students the opportunity to explore cancer research from the front lines, learning the latest techniques in the fight against cancer today and setting the ground for the future. Any interested Grade 11 students are asked to meet THIS WEDNESDAY Feb 15 at lunch in Room 200 (Ms. McAvoy's Room) for more details.
Encourage kids to READ
Come to the Learning Commons, grab a bookmark and colour them - then we'll send them to Lochside and Cordova Bay Elementary students. Choose from a variety of designs.
Lost & Found
A Samsung cell phone and an Invisalign mouth retainer were found in the school on Friday. Please come to the office to claim them.
After School Homework Club
For all students who would like extra help in academic classes, help from Education Assistants is available four days a week (MONDAY-THURSDAY) for one hour after school in room 235. All academic subjects are welcome, but especially if you are struggling in Math & Science. This is open to all students in all grades.
Breakfast Club
The Breakfast Club is running on TUESDAY and THURSDAY mornings (before block 1) at the Spartan Store. All students are welcome to come by for a bagel (with choice of spreads) and a juice box. Items are $.25 each.

Valentines Music Café – Feb.14
Do you need something to do on Valentine's Day? Come and enjoy an evening of music TUESDAY NIGHT, 7-9pm, in the Learning Commons.

Rugby
Rugby practice is after school TODAY. There are two weeks before our boys play scrimmage games with Oak Bay, SMUS, and Royal Bay. Let's get set and ready to run as a team!!

Spirit Club: “Perfect Match” Day – Feb.13
TODAY is "Perfect Match" day. It is great to see so many students and staff wearing fun matching outfits. Come by the Student Lounge at lunch to get your Perfect Match photos taken. Prizes and Element points for the best group outfits!
Key Club – in Need of Old T-Shirts
The Key Club is making DIY dog toys for the Broken Promises Rescue Centre, and needs 100% cotton, clean T-shirts in ALL colours and sizes. Drop-off is at the front office every day until WEDNESDAY Feb. 22nd. Your help is much appreciated!

Grad Fundraiser: Krispy Kreme Donuts – March 4
Krispy Kreme Donuts will be on sale on SATURDAY March 4th, 11:00-3:00, at 2 locations: Royal Oak Plaza (Co-Op) and Broadmead Plaza (Canadian Tire) and we are also doing PRE-SALES. Grad Fundraiser: Ongoing Bottle Drive
An easy way to support the 2023 Grad Class is by donating empty bottles and beverage containers throughout the school year until June at the Bottle Depot location at Glanford/Quadra. Account name is “Claremont Grad 2023.” Thank you for supporting the grad class of 2023.

An Employment Recruiter from Island Health will be visiting Claremont to provide information about their casual positions in food services and housekeeping. Skills Canada Competitions
Registration for this year's Regional South Island Skills Canada Competitions will be open soon! Online or face-to-face competitions will be held, covering areas like automotive, baking, hairstyling, welding, electronics, pipe trades, job search, photography, and more...
Competitions will be in March, with the deadline for registration mid-February. Keep watching announcements for more information. See Mr. Bussoli in room 217 if you are interested in competing. More information HERE.
Summer Employment with Saanich School District
Grade 12 Students: The Saanich School District #63 will be hiring summer staff in the Custodial Department! Full-time, union positions will be available from the end of June until end of August, with the opportunity for continuing employment. Earn competitive wages vs. minimum wage. The Peninsula Youth Clinic is located at 2379 Bevan Avenue in Sidney and is open every THURSDAY from 5:30-7:30pm for help with any medical concern (physical, mental, and sexual health).
