Cozy Crafts Cocoa & Cookies – Dec.16

Come to the Learning Commons TODAY at lunch for cozy crafty cocoa cookie fun times!  Bring your holiday spirit, have some cookies, drink some hot cocoa, and make some snowflakes to win points for your element house!  Everyone welcome!

 

Element Winners

We are very excited to announce our December Element Winners!  Congratulations to: Cooper BOARD from the Earth Element;

Grace SINATS  from the Air Element;

Annan  McALLISTER from the Fire Element;

and Sofia MAIRS from the Water Element.

Each of these students has gone above and beyond in a variety of ways to showcase their SPARTAN spirit. This month, Grace, Sofia and Cooper organized, advertised and helped facilitate the Naloxone training for the Grade 12 students on Dec 1st.  The workshop facilitators (Youth H.O.P.E Mission) were very impressed with all the support that they received from these three.

Annan was nominated for his contribution to Ms. Lambert’s class and his overall positive attitude.

Keep up the good work students. Way to go SPARTANS!!!

 

After School Homework Club

For all students who would like extra help in academic classes, help from Education Assistants is available four days a week (MONDAY-THURSDAY) for one hour after school in room 235. All academic subjects are welcome, but especially if you are struggling in Math & Science. This is open to all students in all grades.

 

Breakfast Club

The Breakfast Club is running on TUESDAY and THURSDAY mornings (before block 1) at the Spartan Store.  All students are welcome to come by for a bagel (with choice of spreads) and a juice box. Items are $.25 each.

Spirit Squad - Holiday Week

TODAY is Pyjama/Cozy Day !!  Spartans are looking pretty cozy and comfortable today!

 

Key Club - Tree Chipping: Jan. 7 & 8!!

Are you looking for a great option for where to take your tree after the holidays? The Key Club is hosting a tree-chipping fundraiser:

SATURDAY January 7 (10-4pm)

SUNDAY January 8 (10-2pm).

Tree drop-off is in the Claremont student parking lot, off Claremont Avenue. Suggested minimum donation is $10 per tree.  All proceeds will go to the charities and organizations we support.  Thank you to Cullen Tree Services.

 

NEW: Amercian Sign Language Club

A new club will be starting in January.  The ASL Club (American Sign Language) will run on TUESDAYS and THURSDAYS at lunch starting the first week after the winter break.  Room location to be announced in January.  Come try a new language that supports inclusivity.

Grad Fundraiser: Bottle Drive – January 8

There will be a Bottle Drive at Claremont School on SUNDAY January 8.  More details to come.

 

Grad Fundraiser:  Ongoing Bottle Drive

An easy way to support the 2023 Grad Class is by donating empty bottles and beverage containers throughout the school year until June at the Bottle Depot location at Glanford/Quadra.  Account name is “Claremont Grad 2023.” Thank you for supporting the grad class of 2023.

 

¬ CAREER CENTRE

CUE (Canadian Universities Event – Jan.19

CUE (Canadian Universities Event) will be hosting a virtual event for students on January 19.  The event allows students to visit with university reps from over 50 Canadian post-secondary institutions.  This event is geared towards Grade 11 and 12 students and their supporters.

Each university will have a drop-in style virtual booth where students can choose which universities they wish to visit and can ask questions about programs, admissions, scholarships, housing and more.  THURSDAY Jan.19, 6:00-8:00pm.  Registration at www.cuebc.org

 

Job Opportunities

One of Claremont’s neighbours is in urgent need of a student to help with yard clean-up before Christmas. If you're interested in a day's work (around 4 hours @ $20/hr), see Mrs. Watson in room 222 or email her at cwatson@saanichschools.ca for more info.

 

Romeo's @ Broadmead is in urgent need of a part-time dishwasher. You earn minimum wage plus tips!  Apply at the restaurant with your resume and cover letter.

Parents as Education & Career Coaches – Jan.11

Come join our virtual “Parents as Education & Career Coaches” (PECC) Workshop to learn how you can help support your student in planning for their future. The information will be especially helpful for families with students in Grades 10-12. Sessions are engaging and informative, and include a Q&A.

Our district Parent Advisory Committee (called COPACS - Council of Parent Advisory Committees of Saanich) wants to hear from district families about speakers and resources that would be helpful to support you and your child(ren) grow and learn at school.

The COPACS Parent/Guardian Resource Committee has created this SHORT SURVEY for parents and guardians - please share with others and provide your thoughts by January 3rd.  Our school PAC will hear about the results and can potentially coordinate speakers and resources with other schools.

Triple Threat Performers Present the Musical “Into the Woods”

Dec.14, 15, 16, 17

Three final shows! The Triple Threat Performers present the musical, "Into the Woods" at the Ridge Playhouse TONIGHT and SATURDAY. This musical has a very talented cast, is very funny and is full of amazing characters from well-loved fairy tales.  

Dec.16, & 17 @ 7pm nightly, plus a Saturday Dec.17 matinee @ 2pm.  **Claremont staff & Claremont students are $10 with current school photo I.D. card.**   Everyone else $20 at the door.

The show is recommended for ages 4+.  Five of our very own Claremont students are in this cast: Kate, David, Oliver, Hayden & Brendan!! 

This story incorporates classic fairy tales like Little Red Riding Hood, Jack and the Beanstalk, and Cinderella to teach us lessons about wishing. We follow the Baker and his Wife on their journey to complete the Witch's wish so that they may have a child.!  Thank you for supporting community theatre. 

 

Peninsula Youth Clinic

The Peninsula Youth Clinic is located at 2379 Bevan Avenue in Sidney and is open every THURSDAY from 5:30-7:30pm for help with any medical concern (physical, mental, and sexual health). Call 250-656-4143 to make an appointment with a physician or counsellor.  Services are 100% free, confidential, and explicitly inclusive of all genders and sexualities!
