If you ordered Spartan Wear, the clothing has arrived and it will be handed out TODAY at lunch in the big gym.

 

Screamfest Haunters

For all ScreamFest haunters: we will meet THIS FRIDAY at lunch in the theatre, and we ask you to please return your costumes to Mr. Plant and Mr. Brooks at this time.

 

Literacy & Numeracy Assessment: Nov. 1, 2 & 4

Literacy & Numeracy Assessments take place on November 1, 2 & 4.

These sessions will involve the following:

-all current Math 10 classes (with the exception of Workplace 10) writing Numeracy 10;

-all current English 12 classes writing Literacy 12;

-any students in English 11 who missed Literacy 10 last year (due to the January cancellation) writing Literacy 10. 

 

Students in the following categories can also sign up to write through Mrs. Watson in room 222:

- any grade 12 students who would like to write Literacy 12 but are not in an English class until semester 2;

- any grade 12 students who are missing Literacy 10 / Numeracy 10. 

Please be aware that these assessments are mandatory Grad requirements. 

 

To properly schedule these assessments, the entire school will follow a Copernican class schedule consisting of two long blocks per day.

Cafeteria – Cash Sales Only

In the Cafeteria, until further notice, there will be cash sales or punch cards ONLY.  If needed, $5 and $10 Cafeteria punch cards can be purchased in the accounting office using debit or credit.

 

School Bus Cards

If you registered to ride the school bus at the start of this year, a large number of bus cards have arrived.  Please come to the office to pick yours up.

 

Zero Café

The Zero Cafè is officially open in the IGS Room (264) before school (8:30-8:55) and at lunch every day of the week.  Your favourite drinks are here: ice coffees, Caramel Lattes, Cappuccinos, Americanos, etc, etc, etc. We now have TAP for easy payments with debit and credit cards. Please pop down and check us out!

 

Students: Check your School Email

Reminder for all students to check their School District email. Information and reminders are sent to your school email on a regular basis regarding course changes, registration, events, and other topics.

 

Breakfast Club

The Breakfast Club is running on TUESDAY and THURSDAY mornings (before block 1) at the Spartan Store.  All students are welcome to come by for a bagel (with choice of spreads) and a juice box. Items are $.25 each. 

 

After School Homework Club

For all students who would like extra help in academic classes, help from Education Assistants is available four days a week (MONDAY-THURSDAY) for one hour after school in room 235. All academic subjects are welcome, but especially if you are struggling in Math & Science. This is open to all students in all grades.

Call for Cadets: Remembrance Day Ceremonies

Any student cadets interested in being involved in Claremont’s Remembrance Day ceremonies, there will be a meeting THIS THURSDAY at lunch in the choir room.

Girls Basketball

For Junior and Senior Girls Basketball: there will be open gyms TOMORROW (WEDNESDAY) Nov.2, 3:30-5:00 pm and FRIDAY November 4, 3:30-5:00 pm in the big gym. If you have any questions, please see Ms. Robertson or Mr. Reisig. 

 

Jr Boys ‘B’ Vball

Jr Boys ‘B’ Volleyball players: there will be a play session TONIGHT at 7:00pm in the small gym. All gr 9/10 guys are invited to attend.

 

Jr Boys Soccer

Our Jr Boys Soccer team are at UVic TODAY, a win away (vs Carihi) from getting to the Island Championship finals for the 4th consecutive year and hopefully a 4peat.

Grad Parent Meeting – TONIGHT

The first Grad Parent meeting of the year is TONIGHT Nov 1st @ 7:00 pm (virtual only).   Those who attend online will have a chance to meet our Grad Parent Exec (and possibly volunteer for a few spots still remaining!), listen to an overview of events already being planned, discuss fundraising goals and opportunities, and ensure you are in the know for ‘all things Grad’ for Grad 2023!  Please find the link to the upcoming Grad Parent Meeting HERE.

An advisor from the University of Alberta will be at Claremont to share information about U of A's programs, application processes, and other topics related to Post Secondary school in Edmonton, Alberta!  THURSDAY, Nov. 3 at lunch time in the Learning Commons.

 

Camosun Arts & Sciences Info – Nov.7

A student advisor from the Camosun Arts & Science Department will be visiting Claremont to present information about the application process for Camosun, different program options, and general topics regarding being a student at Camosun.  MONDAY, November 7 @ lunch break in the Learning Commons.

 

Canadian Civil Liberties Association – Nov.10

The Canadian Civil Liberties Association (CCLA) will be making a stop on its nationwide rights education roadshow at the University of Victoria law school! Hear from legal

experts and rights advocates and explore how you can become a lawyer and advocate! The event is open to all high school students. Pre-register online so you can receive updates and information on how to register closer to the event date.  Event is THURSDAY Nov.10.

 

Post-Secondary BC Event – Nov.24

Connecting students with the best educational opportunities in British Columbia, the Post-Secondary BC event brings together over 15 of BC's finest schools, to provide tons of information about their school and programs.  Open to all Grade 11 and 12 students.  THURSDAY November 24, 12:45-2:15, in the Learning Commons.

 

Dual Credit Course: Early Learning & Care Program

Are you interested in making a difference in the lives of children? Perhaps considering a career as an Early Childhood Educator?  Camosun has an Early Learning and Care Program starting in February.  This is a dual-credit program, which gives you the certification to be an ELC Assistant. Job Opportunities

Broadmead Care is looking for day and afternoon staff within our facilities for Food Service (hours 7:00-3:00, 3:15-7:15, 4:00-7:00, Housekeeping (7:00-3:00, 3:15-11:15), and Screening (5:30-1:00, 11-4, 12-8, 8-4).  They have 5 care homes from Sidney to James Bay, with our Royal Oak Lodge being the biggest.

Canadian Tire at Royal Oak is looking for energetic students who would like a part time job. We are looking for cashiers and floor staff for all departments (Automotive, Housewares, Hardware and Sports/Seasonal). Hours are flexible, but new hires are asked to work one weekend day shift and one night shift. Studio 63 Hair Studio & Food Bank Donations

Did you know that School District #63 has its own Hairstylist training program?  Studio 63 offers Hairdressing training in partnership with Vancouver Island University.  Studio 63 is located at the Saanichton Learning Centre, 1649 Mt Newton X Rd.

From Oct.24 – Dec. 1, Studio 63 is hosting a canned food drive in conjunction with their hair studio services, to support our local food bank. 

Basic Haircut - $2 with canned food donation.

Shampoo, Cut & Style - $5 with canned food donation.

Peninsula Youth Clinic

The Peninsula Youth Clinic is located at 2379 Bevan Avenue in Sidney and is open every THURSDAY from 5:30-7:30pm for help with any medical concern (physical, mental, and sexual health).
