REMINDER - Blood Drive TODAY

Reminder that Claremont is hosting a blood drive TODAY in the small gym. Appointments are still available and can be booked @ blood.ca 

 

NEW – Self-Defence Workshop: May 27

Would you like to learn some basic techniques in self-defense? Come to a fun workshop THIS WEDNESDAY May 27 at lunch in the big gym.  Our very own Aryaman MITTAL is a Karate National Champion and Team Canada member, and he will be leading us through some self-defense skills. This workshop is part of his Capstone project and is open to all students and staff. No sign up is necessary… just bring a friend and join in! 

 

Seeking Poetry & Short Story Magazine Submissions: Due May 25 by May 5

Would you like your writing to be featured in a student magazine?  The New Slang Magazine is a grade 12 student’s Capstone project. 

The deadline for submission is the end of TODAY

What can be submitted:

  1. Poetry no longer than 15 lines.

  2. Short fiction no longer than 400 words. 

Your writing does not have to be brand new;  polishing up old work and submitting is encouraged. Posters can be found around the school with details and a QR code to the submission form.  This is the SUBMISSION LINK .

 

Spirit Day: May 29

Our next school-wide theme day is THIS FRIDAY May 29.  We will be wearing our school colours !!  Let’s see who brings in the most school spirit!!

Musical Theatre Performance: “Cabaret”

BRAVO to everyone involved in the Musical Theatre performance of CABARET!  The cast, crew, and orchestra were absolutely outstanding, and the dream team of Mr. Plant, Ms. Giordano, Mrs. English, and Lisa Simpson wove together their talents, once again, to bring us a highly entertaining and emotionally complex show. Well done, everyone!

Thrift Event: May 27

A group of PEP 9 students is running the “Justice Thrift” event on WEDNESDAY May 27th after school (3:30-5:00) in the Student Lounge. A donation box is at the counter of the main office, and donations will be accepted at the office until the end of TODAY.  All money raised will support the Red Cross. We will gladly accept donations that are clean and sellable, such as clothes, jewelry, books, shoes, and trinkets. Thank you for your support.

Volunteer Opportunity: June 12

Earn volunteer hours at the ḰELSET PAC Spring Fair!  High school students are needed to help run the carnival games, at ḰELSET Elementary, on FRIDAY June 12, from 5-8pm.  See Mrs. Watson in the Career Centre (Room 217) for more info, or email her at cwatson@saanichschools.ca

 

Rotary Youth Exchange: Info Session for the 2027–28 School Year!
Each year RYE selects a few students from Victoria to study abroad for 1 year of high school.  Rotary covers most program costs, and families are responsible for flights, insurance, and personal spending money.
Two programs are offered:
• Long-Term Exchange (full school year abroad)
• Short-Term Exchange (summer exchange program)

Job Opportunity

UBC MD Outreach 

UBC is offering the following programs to high school students: 

  1. Their Youth Outreach Mentorship Program connects high school students with a UBC medical student, via approximately six virtual sessions. Dates and timing of the sessions will vary depending on student schedules. If you're interested in the field of medicine and community health, then this is a great opportunity to learn from someone who has this particular life experience
  2. Their Mini Med School provides Black and Indigenous students with more information about becoming a doctor, and the pathway to applying to medical school. Workshop presentations will be given by Indigenous physicians, medical students, and university staff and faculty members. The 1-day workshop is at UVic on THURSDAY, June 25, and breakfast and lunch are provided.

Summer Volunteering and Employment in School Gardens!

Here is an easy way to support your PAC year-round. Save your Country Grocer receipts and bring them to the school front office.  We appreciate your participation in this fundraiser, which will benefit our school community with up to $2000 in grocery gift cards.

REMINDER - Bus Registration for 2026-2027: Deadline May 31

Reminder that there is one month remaining to complete bus transportation registration for the upcoming school year 2026/27. Registration Deadline: May 31st.

Please note:

  • All registrations submitted after May 31 will be considered late.
  • $100 late fee will apply to any late registrations if a seat is offered.

All bus registrations are through the SD 63 Transportation Department.  This is the BUS REGISTRATION LINK  . If you have any questions or need assistance, please email the Transportation Department at: transportation@saanichschools.ca

 

If a Student is Absent or Late

Student Drivers

Reminder to all students who are parking their vehicles in the student parking lot: you are required to be registered with the school. Permission forms and parking passes ($2 each) are available with Mrs. Waller in the Accounting office; students will be required to show their drivers licence, their insurance papers, and their ICBC Driver’s Abstract.

 

COMMUNITY NEWS

Peninsula Youth Clinic at Shoreline Medical

At this Youth Clinic, services are 100% free, confidential, and explicitly inclusive of all genders and sexualities! This clinic operates on THURSDAYS, 5:30 pm – 7:30 pm, for Mental and Sexual Health education (there is no physician scheduled). Appointments with a physician are offered on FRIDAYS from 10:00 am – 12:00pm.  Both telehealth and in-person appointments are offered for our physicians and counselors.
