¬ GENERAL ANNOUNCEMENTS

NEW - Robotics

Claremont Robotics hosted 28 teams from across Vancouver Island in the big gym this past weekend and Team 1022 Z consisting of Santiago Alvarez Perez, Isabella Tascon, Madeline Baxter, Ava Lancaster, and Owen Zhang finished in first place.  Congratulations to all the Claremont teams that competed in this tournament.

Literacy & Numeracy

Literacy and Numeracy Assessments are this Tuesday and Wednesday, that means we have a Copernican long block schedule on those day. Tuesday is blocks 1 and 3 and Wednesday is blocks 2 and 4.

The NextUpProject

Please consider donating used sports equipment to The NextUp Project run by two Claremont alum. The project is an excellent opportunity to give back, promote health and wellness, and help kids stay active. There is a drop box just inside the main doors. 

Parent Volunteers/Drivers

Reminder that all volunteers for School District 63 are required to complete a Criminal Record Check every three years. Sports and trips will start up quickly, so we encourage parents to be proactive and do this NOW, if you might be interested in driving; the process can take a few weeks at rush time.  The LINK to information can be found on the Claremont Secondary home pageunder the Parents tab, Volunteer Information.

If a Student is Absent or Late

Parents are asked to please email your student’s teacher AND the Attendance Line if your student will be absent or late for class. The Link for the Claremont Attendance Line is always quick to find on the Quick Links on the Claremont website’s home page: claremont_attendance@saanichschools.ca  or by phone by calling our main phone line at 250-658-5221 and selecting Option 1 for Attendance.

 

¬ FINE ARTS

NEW - Claremont Film and TV

Claremont Film and TV are having their inaugural "Film Festival" on Thursday January 30th at 7pm in the Ridge Playhouse Come see projects students in grade 9-12 have been working on!  All are welcome and treats will be served.  It is a free event! 

NEW – Night of Dance

Night of Dance is Tuesday and Wednesday night at 7pm! Tickets are on sale at lunch outside the theatre. Only $5 for Spartans!

 

¬ ATHLETICS

Rugby 

NEW – Rugby players, please be reminded that we will have lunch time meetings Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday for all players hoping to participate this year.  We also have practices this Tuesday and Thursday after school.  It's been a great start to the season so far!

January 21 - There is a rugby meeting in Mr Belvedere's room TODAY (January 21st, Tuesday) at lunch for all junior boys rugby players. 

January 22 - There is a rugby meeting TODAY (January 22th, Wednesday) at lunch in Mr Belvedere's room for all junior and senior girls rugby players

January 23 - There is a rugby meeting in Mr Belvedere's room room TODAY (January 23rd, Thursday) for all senior boys rugby players today.

The IBPOC group will meet on Tuesday the 21st in Room 201.

Claremont's robotics teams are hosting a back sale at lunch today and tomorrow (January 20th and 21st) in the student lounge. All homemade cookies, brownies and treats are any 2 items for only one dollar. Please come out and support your robotics program.

- $20/Hour to Start / Part-time, flexible hours

Volunteers for UVIC’s Tsukino-Con Anime Convention! Feb 15-17

Volunteers will be required to attend one of two orientations taking place in February. 

Applications should be completed and submitted no later than January 31st, 2025.

Peninsula Youth Clinic

The Peninsula Youth Clinic is located at 2379 Bevan Avenue in Sidney and is open every THURSDAY from 5:30-7:30pm for help with any medical concern (physical, mental, and sexual health). Call 250-656-4143 to make an appointment with a physician or counsellor.  Services are 100% free, confidential, and explicitly inclusive of all genders and sexualities!
