¬ GENERAL ANNOUNCEMENTS

 

NEW – Friday Night Lights @ UVic

Be sure to come out and join our Girls & Boys Claremont LAX Programs this coming FRIDAY November 29 for a night of competition, skill and teamwork!   Games will be running from 5:30-9:00pm on Field #3 at UVic, with the feature event slated for 7:00pm; proceeds raised will be donated to Kidsport, Toys for Teens, and local families in need.  Student tickets are $2 and will be on sale all this week at the accounting office, all other guests are asked to provide a donation at the gate when they arrive at UVic.  Be sure to dress warm and get ready for some exciting Lacrosse action!

 

NEW – Parent Info Session for Major Trips

A general parent info session for both trips listed below will be occurring at the conclusion of our Parent Teacher Evening at 7:00pm on THURSDAY, November 28 in Rm. 327 (on our third floor).  Please swing by and find out more about these amazing opportunities or email the main contact:  Dave Gardner (dgardner@saanichschools.ca).

Would you like to travel to Italy, Monaco, France and Spain with us this July?  Please go and see Ms. Wells anytime in Rm. 312 to sign up!  Get a friend to join and you can save money on your own trip!

 

Parent-Teacher Conferences

Parent-Teacher conferences will be held on THURSDAY November 28 from 5:00-7:00pm.  Appointments will open for booking Monday November 25 at 5:00 pm.  Full instructions are under “Upcoming School Events” on the Claremont website at the bottom of the home page. (This will be on the website soon!)  Conferences fill up fast so book early.  Online bookings close on Thursday, November 28 at 10:00 am.  We are not able to book any appointments after the schedule closes.  Please contact the teacher to make alternate arrangements.

 

Boys Lacrosse Fundraiser

Gift your family and friends time spent together and break up the monotony of winter vacation by purchasing Victoria Royals tickets from the Boys Lacrosse program!

Parent Volunteers/Drivers

Reminder that all volunteers for School District 63 are required to complete a Criminal Record Check every three years. Sports and trips will start up quickly, so we encourage parents to be proactive and do this NOW, if you might be interested in driving; the process can take a few weeks at rush time.  The LINK to information can be found on the Claremont Secondary home page, under the Parents tab, Volunteer Information.

 

If a Student is Absent or Late

Parents are asked to please email your student’s teacher AND the Attendance Line if your student will be absent or late for class. The Link for the Claremont Attendance Line is always quick to find on the Quick Links on the Claremont website’s home page: claremont_attendance@saanichschools.ca  or by phone by calling our main phone line at 250-658-5221 and selecting Option 1 for Attendance.

 

¬ FINE ARTS

NEW - Claremont Drama is excited to present the theatrical comedy Midsummer/Jersey WEDNESDAY, December 11-14 nightly at 7:30pm as well as a 2pm matinee on SATURDAY December 14 in the Ridge Playhouse at Claremont.

 

This fun play is inspired by William Shakespeare's A Midsummer Night's Dream and is set in 2014 upon the Jersey Shore.  Featuring the 20 students in Drama Company, and supported by the Stagecraft program, this production is sure to put a smile on your face before the winter break.  This production is rated family friendly, and all tickets are $10 at the door.  Doors open at 7:10pm nightly and at 1:40 for the matinee.

 

Our tradition of supporting the Mustard Seed Food Bank continues with our "donate for a dollar" program.  For each non-perishable item you bring to donate to the food bank on the night of the performance, you can receive  1 off your ticket price to a maximum discount of $5. (although we welcome you donating more than 5 items!).

NEW – Sr. Boys Volleyball

Congratulations to the Sr. Boys Volleyball team who won a bronze medal at the Island Championships. Congrats to Logan Hennessy and Jackson Boulding who were both named tournament Allstars. By capturing the bronze medal, the team has qualified for the Provincial championships that are here in Victoria this week. If you have time, come out and cheer on your Sr Boy’s team!!

 

¬ CLUBS

NEW – Robotics Club

Claremont's robotics teams began their tournament season this past weekend at Shawnigan Lake School against 24 other teams from across Vancouver Island. Your Spartans took home 5 trophies including tournament champions and top team overall. Special shout out grade 9s Kiva Delano and Camryn McKeachie who made it to the semi-finals in their very first tournament. Congratulations to all the team members!!

¬ GRAD 2025

NEW - Claremont Annual Winter Gala - Grad 2025

A reminder to all our Grade 12 students that your first major Grad event, The Grad Winter Gala, is coming up quickly on TUESDAY December 3 from 6:30-10:00pm!  The event will be hosted in our Main Hall, Student Lounge and Learning Commons, and our amazing Grad Parent Executive team will be transforming these areas into a fancy Winter Wonderland!  There will a professional DJ & Dancing, multiple Photo Booths, drinks/appies in the Learning Commons, draw prizes and more: tickets are $50 on sale through Mrs. Waller in the accounting office anytime this week!

NEW – Careers Week – November 25 – 29

In celebration of Careers Week – November 25 - 29, we have some exciting events happening at Claremont!  Here is our first event:  Did you know that the average person has 4-6 career changes in their life?  Come to our New Career Centre in Rm. 217 to try your luck at matching our amazing Claremont Staff with their 'Career Journey' form. 

There will be some awesome PRIZES for the top 3 students who have guessed most accurately!  Also, stay tuned for more announcements involving other Career Week Events.  Here is our next one...Come participate in the New Career Centre Scavenger Hunt for even MORE PRIZES!  Good Luck!!

 

Greater Victoria Green Team Volunteer Opportunity

Join the Greater Victoria Green Team on SUNDAY December 1 for an Invasive English Ivy removal at UVic!  This is a great opportunity to spend meaningful time in nature, try something new, get exercise outdoors, gain volunteer hours, and connect with the community - all while making a positive impact!  See Mrs. Watson in the Career Centre (Rm. 217) for more info or email her at cwatson@saanichschools.ca.
 

Volunteer Opportunity - Coaching Basketball
A community member in the Broadmead area is seeking a student volunteer to coach her 13-yr old granddaughter in basketball one time per week.  You do not need transportation, and this opportunity could be a paid position, if it works out. Here is an easy way to support your PAC year-round. Save your Country Grocer receipts and bring them to the school front office.  We appreciate your participation in this fundraiser, which will benefit our school community with up to $2000 in grocery gift cards.

Peninsula Youth Clinic

The Peninsula Youth Clinic is located at 2379 Bevan Avenue in Sidney and is open every THURSDAY from 5:30-7:30pm for help with any medical concern (physical, mental, and sexual health). Call 250-656-4143 to make an appointment with a physician or counsellor.  Services are 100% free, confidential, and explicitly inclusive of all genders and sexualities!
