Literacy and Numeracy Assessments – June 11 & 12
Literacy and Numeracy assessments continue TODAY. All Socials 10 classes will be writing Literacy 10 and Workplace Math will be writing Numeracy 10.
Revised Class Schedule
To properly schedule these assessments, the entire school will follow a Copernican class schedule consisting of two long blocks per day.
TODAY June 12
Block 2: 9:00 – 11:45 (Lit/Num Assessments: 9:00 – 12:00)
Block 4: 12:30 – 3:12 (Lit/Num Assessments: 12:30 – 3:30)
If you are writing one of these assessments, please arrive 10 minutes early to get set up.
Night of Dance: June 11 & 12
The second show of Night of Dance is TONIGHT at 7pm. IF there are any tickets still available, they will be on sale at lunch outside the theatre. $5 for Spartans.
NEW – Breakfast Program
TOMORROW (THURSDAY) June 13th is the last day for our Breakfast Program for the year. Thank you to the volunteers who were here early to make this happen! All items will be FREE on Thursday!
Yearbooks
Our Grads will receive their yearbooks at the Grad BBQ on MONDAY June 17. For all other students, yearbooks will be handed out next week TUESDAY - FRIDAY at lunch and after school in the Student Lounge.
Trip To Spain, Italy and France
Would you like to go to Spain, Italy and France next July 2025? Ms. Wells is planning a fun trip that is open to all students in grades 9, 10 and 11 currently. Do you love great food, beaches, cool architecture, art and museums, shopping and exploring with friends? Come to a lunch info meeting TOMORROW (THURSDAY) in Ms.Wells' room 312 on the third floor. Donations Drive for SPCA: June 6-12
A group of grade 9 PEP students are hosting a donations drive for the Victoria SPCA. Please consider donating any old linens, such as towels, blankets, sheets, (NO fitted sheets or pillow cases, please), as well as wet or dry pet food (it can be open, just not past its ‘best before’ date), pet toys, carriers, and kitty litter. Please drop off your items in the labeled bin in front of the office. TODAY is the final day.
After School Homework Club
For all students who would like extra help in academic classes, help from Education Assistants is available four days a week (MONDAY-THURSDAY) for one hour after school in room 235. All academic subjects are welcome. This is open to all students in all grades.
Zero Café Is Selling Ice Cream!
Along with hot drinks and baked treats, the Zero Café is now selling ice cream cones at lunch time too! Cones are $3.

Extra Grad Ceremony Tickets
All of the extra tickets for the grad ceremony are sold out. For anyone who did not get a ticket for the ceremony at UVic, they can still watch the ceremony online (the link will be put onto our school website) or in the UVic Farquhar Auditorium foyer on large TV monitors (there is limited seating, but the space is large).
We also ask that if anyone cannot use their purchased ticket on Grad day, to please return it to the Ticket Centre, so that someone else can use the seat.
INDIGENOUS EDUCATION
June is National Indigenous History Month
June is National Indigenous History Month, and there will be lots of events popping up which gives everyone the opportunity to celebrate Indigenous culture!
On FRIDAY June 21st, Royal Roads University is hosting their annual National Indigenous Peoples Day celebration from 10am to 3pm. The day will open with a performance from Lekwungen singers and dancers, followed by a welcome ceremony and traditional canoe landing protocol. There will be vendors and food trucks open all day, and more performances from drumming, singing, and dance groups will happen in the afternoon! There will also be canoe challenges/races and opportunities to join on plant walks with Quw'utsun (Cowichan) elder Kenneth Elliot. More info at this LINK.

Youth Leaders in Training
The City of Victoria’s ‘Youth Leadership in Training’ Program (YLIT) has a focus on recreational leadership skills, as well as public speaking, teamwork, communication, and many other important life skills. The training consists of 3 parts:
1. One week of leadership training at Crystal Pool.
2. Four weeks of placements in City of Victoria summer camps.
3. Team building out-trips.
Applicants must be 14-17 years old with an interest in recreation and/or child & youth care. They are selected in an interview process that consists of initiative tasks, questions, and scenarios. At the end of the program, YLITs receive a $600 honorarium for the completion of the program as well as a certificate and a reference letter.
Applications are due by June 28th!

Paramedic First Responder Camp
Alert First Aid is offering Paramedic (First Responder) Camp this summer! This immersive and empowering experience is designed exclusively for individuals between the ages of 13-17. Over the course of two action-packed weeks, participants will experience learning and personal growth in the field of emergency medical care and will receive a Standard First Aid and CPR C Certificate, First Responder Certificate, Deluxe First Aid Kit, T-Shirt, and tons of practice time. The program costs $950.00 with two camp dates. Spots are limited.
Option A: July 8-12 & July 15-19
Option B: Aug 12-16 & Aug 19-23

Volunteer Opportunity
Here is a great opportunity to enjoy HarbourCats Baseball, while supporting Habitat For Humanity Victoria AND earning volunteer hours! Volunteers are wanted for all home games of the 2024 HarbourCats season. The season starts soon. There are two volunteer options:
1. HarbourCats Usher: volunteers will help attendees find their seats, control foot traffic, answer questions, etc.

Peninsula Youth Clinic
The Peninsula Youth Clinic is located at 2379 Bevan Avenue in Sidney and is open every THURSDAY from 5:30-7:30pm for help with any medical concern (physical, mental, and sexual health). Call 250-656-4143 to make an appointment with a physician or counsellor. Services are 100% free, confidential, and explicitly inclusive of all genders and sexualities!
