¬ GENERAL ANNOUNCEMENTS

 

Lost Item

NEW - Did you lose an Air Pod case with only one air pod inside?  Come to the office to identify it and pick it up!

 

Bus Passes

If your student has registered for the school bus and did not pick up their bus pass yet, they can pick it up from Mrs. Waller in the Accounting Office.  You must have your bus pass to ride the bus.

 

Parent Volunteers/Drivers

Reminder that all volunteers for School District 63 are required to complete a Criminal Record Check every three years. Sports and trips will start up quickly, so we encourage parents to be proactive and do this NOW, if you might be interested in driving; the process can take a few weeks at rush time.  The LINK to information can be found on the Claremont Secondary home page, under the Parents tab, Volunteer Information.

 

Cafeteria Service

Once the Cafeteria class is up and running, there will be a tasty selection of lunch meals and treats offered in the cafeteria.  For the first week or so of classes, there will be pizza for sale at lunch.  $2.50 per slice. Cash only.

 

School Photo Day – Sept 12

Photo Day is THURSDAY morning Sept 12 for all grades!!!  Purchasing photos is optional, but all students in all grades need to have school photos taken for school identification purposes (grade 12’s too - even if you are having grad photos taken later).  In approximately 3-4 weeks, Lifetouch will send us student I.D. cards for every student.  If you wish to order photos, please go to Lifetouch directly: you will need to go to “www.lifetouch.ca” for more information after the initial photo sessions have taken place.

 

Return Forms

Reminder for students to please return their Student Information Verification Forms and locker selection forms to the office.

 

Lockers/Locks

Students who need a lock or locker, please see Mrs. Waller in the Accounting office for a lock OR a locker selection form.

 

Course Changes

Any students that handed in a course change sheet last weekplease check your email or text messages to see if you have been added to a waitlist or have been asked to see a counsellor. 

 

If a Student is Absent or Late

Parents are asked to please email your student’s teacher AND the Attendance Line if your student will be absent or late for class. The Link for the Claremont Attendance Line is always quick to find on the Quick Links on the Claremont website’s home page: claremont_attendance@saanichschools.ca  or by phone by calling our main phone line at 250-658-5221 and selecting Option 1 for Attendance.

 

 

¬ FINE ARTS

NEW - Choir begins September 9th after school.  Choir lunch rehearsals will begin WEDNESDAY Sept 11 and MONDAY Sept 16.

 

NEW - Jazz band is MONDAY AND FRIDAY mornings this week.

 

NEW - Concert band is TUESDAY and THURSDAY this week.

Fall sports start up quickly.

Volleyball

Jr Girls (Mr Freeburn & TBA) - TODAY Sept 10 - after school in the main gym.  Two teams will be selected.

¬ CLUBS

Homework Club is up and running! Homework Club runs daily Monday through Thursday from 3:15-4:15 in Room 235. It is a great space where you can drop in and get some homework done before you head home! Teaching is not provided but an EA is available to support the group... See you there!

 

Math Club will meet on Fridays at lunchtime – Rm. 130

 

NEW - Knitting & Crochet Club meets every Thursday at lunch in Ms. Tong’s room (323).  Beginners are welcome.

 

¬ INTERNATIONAL STUDENTS

There will be an International Pizza Lunch on WEDNESDAY Sept 11 in the Learning Commons.

 

¬ GRAD 2025

NEW - The first Grad Executive meeting is at lunch TODAY in room 200.  If you’d like a say in our first spirit week then please come to the meeting.

 

¬ INDIGENOUS EDUCATION

No news today.

 

¬ FUNDRAISING

NEW – Bottle drive – SATURDAY Sept 21 from 9am to 3pm.  The Claremont Lacrosse Academy will be handing out flyers in pick up areas – if you receive a flyer please leave your empties out by 930am and they will pick up from you otherwise you can drop them off at Claremont.

 

NEW - Mark your calendars!  The next bottle drive will be on OCTOBER 19.  Details to come.

Career Centre

The Career Centre (room 217) is an excellent place to find out about work, volunteer, and training opportunities.  Drop by to see Mrs. Watson with your questions.

 

Volunteer Opportunity

Get Volunteer Hours with the Greater Victoria GREEN TEAM!

There are many opportunities to be outside, meet new people, and help protect your local habitat, by helping remove invasive plants.  Come to the Career Centre (Room 217), or email Mrs. Watson for more information: cwatson@saanichschools.ca

 

Work with Elections BC!

This is a great opportunity for students ages 15-19 who are interested in a paid job for 1-2 days.  The next election date is October 19.  Youth at the Booth – Elections BC.  See Mrs. Watson in the Career Centre or email her for more info: cwatson@saanichschools.ca

 

Attention Grade 12 Students (11’s and 10’s space permitting)

The CUE (Canadian Universities Event) is coming to Parkland Secondary on TUESDAY September 17.  We have been invited to attend during Block 3.  If you are interested in this event, please come to the Career Centre (Room 217) to pick up the Field Trip form and other information.  Forms are due by WEDNESDAY September 11th!

 

Fire Camp – Spring Break 2025

Apply NOW, for Fire Camp on Pender Island - Spring Break 2025!  Deadline to apply is THIS WEEK!

  • Admission fee is $200 per student (financial assistance available).
  • Applicants must be 15 to 18 years of age.
  • Pre -training will consist of one Saturday prior to the camp (8 hours total).
  • Upon completing the entire program, students will qualify for 100 work experience hours, equivalent to 4 credits. 
  • Applications are available at your school Career Centre (Room 217). 
  • Applications must be submitted by Thursday, September 12, 2024! 
  • Fire Camp Dates: March 24 -29, 2025

There is still time to sign up for TEAC105 – Explorations in Technology, for Semester 2!  This course explores four technologies through inquiry, problem solving and project-based learning: Civil Engineering; Mechanical Engineering; Computer Science.  Don’t miss this great Dual Credit opportunity!  Come to the Career Centre as soon as possible to make an appointment with Mr. Bussoli.

Here is an easy way to support your PAC year-round. Save your Country Grocer receipts and bring them to the school front office.  We appreciate your participation in this fundraiser, which will benefit our school community with up to $2000 in grocery gift cards.

Peninsula Youth Clinic

The Peninsula Youth Clinic is located at 2379 Bevan Avenue in Sidney and is open every THURSDAY from 5:30-7:30pm for help with any medical concern (physical, mental, and sexual health). Call 250-656-4143 to make an appointment with a physician or counsellor.  Services are 100% free, confidential, and explicitly inclusive of all genders and sexualities!
