¬ GENERAL ANNOUNCEMENTS

 

Spartan Day!

THURSDAY October 3 is this year’s first official Spartan Day!  Wear RED and donate towards the Cops for Cancer’s annual Tour de Rock ride and fight against cancer!  Our Claremont campaign is “Tour de Rock Toonies” and the hope is that every student and staff donate at least one toonie to the cause.  Donations will be collected in BLOCK 3 classes TODAY, WEDNESDAY AND THURSDAY October 1-3!

Block 1           9:00-10:00am

Block 2           10:06-11:10am

VIDEO            11:10-11:30am

Lunch            11:30-12:00 noon

Tour de Rock 12:00-12:50pm

NEW - The leadership class will be selling candy bags in the lounge at lunch TODAY and TOMORROW  and there will be a pizza sale at lunch on THURSDAY - both to raise money for “Cops for Cancer” and the Tour de Rock!  Bags are $2.50 or 5/$10.

 

 

NEW - Zero Café

Win free coffee for a week from the Zero Café!  Look for posters around the school to scan the QR code and enter your name in the draw.  Submit your name before the end of the day on FRIDAY October 4th.  The winner will be announced on Monday October 7th.

 

 

Calculus and Physics Help

Need help with studying or looking to enhance your understanding?  These students are here to take your learning to the next level!  Whether you’re struggling with homework, preparing for tests, or just looking to improve, our club offers free tutoring sessions to help you succeed.  We offer peer-to-peer tutoring in various subjects including Pre-Calculus 9-12, Calculus 12 and Physics 11 and 12. Come to Rm. 135 on Mondays & Wednesdays from 3:15pm – 4:30pm.

Parent Volunteers/Drivers

Reminder that all volunteers for School District 63 are required to complete a Criminal Record Check every three years. Sports and trips will start up quickly, so we encourage parents to be proactive and do this NOW, if you might be interested in driving; the process can take a few weeks at rush time.  The LINK to information can be found on the Claremont Secondary home page, under the Parents tab, Volunteer Information.

 

 

If a Student is Absent or Late

Parents are asked to please email your student’s teacher AND the Attendance Line if your student will be absent or late for class. The Link for the Claremont Attendance Line is always quick to find on the Quick Links on the Claremont website’s home page: claremont_attendance@saanichschools.ca  or by phone by calling our main phone line at 250-658-5221 and selecting Option 1 for Attendance.

NEW – Curling

All students interested in curling please attend a meeting at lunch TOMORROW October 2 in Rm. 326 with Mr. Macri and Mrs. Waller.  No experience necessary.

 

NEW Congratulations to the Junior Girls BLUE volleyball team, who had a great weekend at VIU, finishing 5th; and to the Claremont Senior Girls Volleyball team, who placed in the Top 10 this weekend in the 48-team tournament at Douglas College. With the win, the Senior Girls will be ranked in BC's prestigious top 10. Tonight, the Senior Girls volleyball team plays at Claremont @6pm. Wear white and go Spartans!

 

 

¬ CLUBS

NEW – Board Game Club meets every TUESDAY at lunch in Rm. 324.  Bring a friend!

 

NEW – Math Club – The first contest of the year – the CLMC – takes place this THURSDAY October 3 at 9am in Rm. 325.  There are 17 students already signed up and 3 more spots available.  See Mr. Skanks if you would like to write or join the Math Club Google Classroom for more details.

Whale Watching Trip

Any international students on the whale watching trip on October 4th, permission forms are due TODAY October 1.  If you do not have your forms in, you will not be able to go.

NEW – Canadian Coast Guard

Are you interested in a career with the Canadian Coast Guard?  Come to the Career Centre (Rm. 217) at LUNCHTIME on THURSDAY October 10.  Officers will be on hand to tell you all about Coast Guard training and education.  Bring your questions!

 

NEW – Rotary Club

The Rotary Clubs of Victoria are recruiting for their 2025/26 exchange year!  Come to the Career Centre on TUESDAY October 8 at LUNCH to learn how to apply.  Rotary exchange offers students a great way to travel to another country to learn and also share their experience as a Canadian.  Don’t miss this opportunity!

 

NEW – Yard Help

One of our neighbours is looking for a student to help with yard work on Saturday mornings through the fall.  Hours are flexible but between 10am and 1pm would work best.  See Mrs. Watson in the Career Centre (Rm. 217) or email her for more info: cwatson@saanichschools.ca.

 

NEW – Greater Victoria Green Team – Volunteer Opportunities for October and Early November – Green Team volunteering activities are a great opportunity for youth and community to spend time together outside, meet new people, learn new skills, and make a real difference in the community by taking care of nature.  All ages, abilities, backgrounds, and experience levels are welcome!  Educational instruction and demonstrations are provided, as well as tools and gloves for volunteers.  There will also be delicious snacks!  See Mrs. Watson in the Career Centre (Rm. 217) or email her for more info: cwatson@saanichschools.ca.

Do you have one that you HAVEN’T HANDED IN YET?  Please bring the purple sheet to the Career Centre TODAY or you cannot be added to Work Experience for this school year.

Volunteers Needed!

Volunteers are needed at ReStore – Habitat for Humanity Victoria!  Habitat for Humanity helps to raise funds for local working families to access affordable homeownership right here in our local communities.  Student volunteer shifts are 2-4 hours between 9:00am and 5:00pm, Monday through Saturday.  Come to the Career Centre (Rm. 217) or email Mrs. Watson for more info: cwatson@saanichschools.ca .

 

Health EX Day – If you are considering a career in the Health Care Industry, sign up for a field trip to Camosun College for a Health EX Day!  Students will explore dual credit pathways in various health programs including practical nursing, health care assistant, medical radiography and certified medical lab assistant.  This event is on WEDNESDAY October 16 from 9:30am to 12:00pm.  See Mr. Bussoli in the Career Centre to sign up by FRIDAY October 4th.

 

Farm Help – Next weekend (and possibly beyond), help is needed on an organic fruit farm to get it ready for winter.  You will be collecting apples from the ground, raking leaves etc. The farm is not on a bus route so you would need transportation. The work hours are flexible depending on your schedule.  See Mrs. Watson in the Career Centre (Rm. 217) or email her at cwatson@saanichschools.ca for more info.

Newton X Rd.

Here is an easy way to support your PAC year-round. Save your Country Grocer receipts and bring them to the school front office.  We appreciate your participation in this fundraiser, which will benefit our school community with up to $2000 in grocery gift cards.

Peninsula Youth Clinic

The Peninsula Youth Clinic is located at 2379 Bevan Avenue in Sidney and is open every THURSDAY from 5:30-7:30pm for help with any medical concern (physical, mental, and sexual health). Call 250-656-4143 to make an appointment with a physician or counsellor.  Services are 100% free, confidential, and explicitly inclusive of all genders and sexualities!
