¬ GENERAL ANNOUNCEMENTS

ScreamFest – Oct. 25,26,27

Claremont is hosting the 13th Annual "SCREAMFEST" Halloween event Oct. 25, 26, & 27 from 5:30 to 9:00 each night.  Tickets are on sale now at the Accounting office (cash or debit only for pre-event tickets). Tickets are $10 per person or $30 for families of 4+.  Ticket includes event entry, a chance to win contests, draws & door prizes, plus 5 coupons for access to the famous Haunted Walk or for use at the midway games or food at the BBQ and concession.

For planning your visit to the Haunted Walk:

6:00-7:30 is ‘SPOOKY’ for the younger visitors.

8:00-9:00 is ‘SCARY’ for the braver visitors.

 

Literacy & Numeracy

Can the following students please see Mrs. Watson in room 222 to sign up for the November 4th session of Literacy & Numeracy Assessments:

Grade 12s who have not written your Literacy or Numeracy 10.

Grade 12s who are not in English 12 this semester but want to write early.

Grade 11s who have not written Numeracy 10

 

Breakfast Club

The Breakfast Club is running on TUESDAY and THURSDAY mornings (before block 1) at the Spartan Store.  All students are welcome to come by for a bagel (with choice of spreads) and a juice box. Items are $.25 each. 

 

After School Homework Club

For all students who would like extra help in academic classes, help from Education Assistants is available four days a week (MONDAY-THURSDAY) for one hour after school in room 235. All academic subjects are welcome, but especially if you are struggling in Math & Science. This is open to all students in all grades.

Grad Wear

TODAY is the final day to order Grad Wear. Hoodies, sweat pants, t-shirts, long-sleeved shirts, and lanyards!  Check out the info on the Google Classroom and Instagram and get your order forms from the Accounts Office. 

 

Grad Portraits: October 11-21

If you have not booked your appointment yet, do it NOW. Prestige Portraits by Lifetouch has their portable photo studio here at Claremont for a limited time: only until October 21. To book your appointment, go to the LINK either 1) on the Claremont website under “Latest School News” or 2) on the Grad Google Classroom. Don't put this off until later, or all of the on-site appointments will be booked up and you will run out of time.  A sitting fee of $30 (cash or cheque) is due at the time of your appointment (however, if you know you are not purchasing photos later, no sitting fee is required, but we DO need you to have a photo taken for the yearbook).

HighTechU: Careers in the Digital Era – Oct.27

HighTechU is hosting a TED-talk-style lecture to give students a broader perspective on Careers in the Digital Era. In this presentation, you'll learn about what skills are in demand (in any field); high-opportunity jobs in BC; and how to get started with free resources online.  THURSDAY, October 27 at lunch in the Learning Commons.

 

UVic Info Session – Oct.28

UVic is hosting a presentation geared towards Grade 12 students (Grade 11’s can benefit from the information as well), covering general UVic topics, including: co-op and academic opportunities, application & admission processes, awards, student services, upcoming events, etc.  FRIDAY, October 28 at lunch in the Learning Commons.

 

Volunteer Opportunity

Heritage Acres (on Lochside Drive) and The Vancouver Island Model Engineers are hosting “The Halloween Pumpkin Express.”  Volunteers are desperately needed for getting props ready prior to the event and supervising Halloween activities.

Sunday, October 16, 10:30-2:30: setting up graveyard ghosts, witches and games.

Friday/Saturday, October 21 & 22, 4:00pm-8:00pm.

Sunday, October 23, 2:00pm-6:00pm

We are looking for cashiers and floor staff for all departments (Automotive, Housewares, Hardware and Sports/Seasonal). Hours are flexible, but new hires are asked to work one weekend day shift and one night shift. CPAC Parent Meeting – Oct.18

Our 1st meeting of the year will be TUESDAY, October 18 at 7pm. It will be the AGM to vote in the new CPAC Exec for 2022/23. Meeting will be held in the Learning Commons and Virtual on MSTeams. Invite link will be available in Principal Aaron Buckham’s upcoming Newsletter and on the CPAC site.

Here is an easy way to support your PAC year-round. Save your Country Grocer receipts and bring them to the school front office. We appreciate your participation in this fundraiser which will benefit our school community with up to $2000 in grocery gift cards.

Peninsula Youth Clinic

The Peninsula Youth Clinic is located at 2379 Bevan Avenue in Sidney and is open every THURSDAY from 5:30-7:30pm for help with any medical concern (physical, mental, and sexual health). Call 250-656-4143 to make an appointment with a physician or counsellor.  Services are 100% free, confidential, and explicitly inclusive of all genders and sexualities!
