¬ GENERAL ANNOUNCEMENTS
Remembrance Day: Lest We Forget
Claremont will be holding four Remembrance Day Ceremonies in the Ridge Theatre on THURSDAY Nov. 10. Block 1: grades 9 & 10. Block 2: grades 11 & 12. We honour the service and sacrifice of the men and women who served our country, and those who continue to serve, in order to preserve our Canadian values and freedoms. Thank you to the men and women of our Canadian military: the soldiers, medics, equipment technicians, pilots, support staff and peacekeepers.
Poppies from the Royal Canadian Legion will be distributed to students on THURSDAY Nov.10 in block 1 classes. There will be donation bins at the entrance to the theatre as students and staff arrive for the Remembrance Day ceremonies. We encourage all students and staff to make a donation to the Legion Poppy Fund and wear a poppy proudly. There is also a donation bin and poppies at the front office. Poppy funds raised assist Veterans and their families with many necessary services and supports.
Canadian Computing Competition
Any students interested in participating in the Canadian Computing Competition from the University of Waterloo, please see Mr. Beeston at lunch this week in room 236 to register.
Dual Credit Business Courses
If you have signed up for a Dual Credit Business Course for Semester 2, please check your school email as there is an important step that must be completed. Also, you must come see Mr. Bussoli ASAP to complete the process.
SD 63 Transportation Policy - Survey
The Board of Education is reviewing its bus transportation policy and is seeking feedback from parents, staff and students (middle and secondary). Your input is appreciated and can be provided using the survey link below. This survey closes November 15th. Please complete the survey HERE.
School Bus Cards
If you registered to ride the school bus at the start of this year, a large number of bus cards have arrived. Please come to the office to pick yours up.
Student Photos Proofs and ID Cards
If you have not picked up your photo proofs and student ID cards, please come to the office to get them.
Breakfast Club
The Breakfast Club is running on TUESDAY and THURSDAY mornings (before block 1) at the Spartan Store. All students are welcome to come by for a bagel (with choice of spreads) and a juice box. Items are $.25 each.
After School Homework Club
For all students who would like extra help in academic classes, help from Education Assistants is available four days a week (MONDAY-THURSDAY) for one hour after school in room 235. All academic subjects are welcome, but especially if you are struggling in Math & Science. This is open to all students in all grades.

Cross Country
The Cross Country Provincials were help at Royal Roads this past Saturday. Eight of our team members had qualified for their respective races and represented Claremont extremely well.
Leading the way for the Senior Girls team was Madelaine EAMES, who finished an amazing 8th overall out of the 200+ runners in the Senior Girls race. This helped the team finish 12th overall. Joining Mady on the Senior Girls team were Isobella DUKART, Alma KNEBEL, Petra FRISON and Silvia PASCOLI.
Also, congratulations to Sydney DUNHILL, Bridget BROOKES,and Lucas PEARSON who all finished in the top half of their Junior races that featured over 240 of the top runners in the province. A special shout out to Lucas who had one of his shoes sucked off in the mud and ended up running the final 2.5km with only one shoe!

Jr Girls' Basketball
Junior Girls' Basketball tryouts will be held TODAY and THIS THURSDAY, Nov. 9, 5:30-7:00 pm each night in the small gym. If you have any questions, or you cannot make one of the tryouts, please let Ms. Robertson know.
Sr Girls Basketball
Sr. Girls Basketball tryouts for all interested girls start THIS WEDNESDAY Nov. 9th after school at 3:30 in the main gym. Please be on time. See Mr Reisig if you have any questions.

Police Camp - Spring Break 2023!
Police Camp is a unique youth leadership program for students in Grade 11 or 12 that have an interest in exploring policing and public safety. Students will spend one week experiencing classroom lectures, physical activity, group discussions and simulations supervised by dozens of police staff. See Mrs. Watson in Room 222 before Dec.5 to learn more about the program. Note change: Application deadline is WEDNESDAY, November 30th.
Camosun Arts & Sciences Info – Nov.7
A student advisor from the Camosun Arts & Science Department will be visiting Claremont to present information about the application process for Camosun, different program options, and general topics regarding being a student at Camosun. TODAY at lunch break in the Learning Commons.
School of the Art Institute of Chicago – Nov.9
If you are interested in a career in the Arts, don't miss a visit with The School of the Art Institute of Chicago! A student advisor from SAIC will be providing information about the school's programs, and how to enroll as an International student to the States. WEDNESDAY, November 9 at lunch in the Student Lounge.
Canadian Civil Liberties Association – Nov.10
The Canadian Civil Liberties Association (CCLA) will be making a stop on its nationwide rights education roadshow at the University of Victoria law school! Hear from legal
experts and rights advocates and explore how you can become a lawyer and advocate! The event is open to all high school students. Pre-register online so you can receive updates and information on how to register closer to the event date. Event is THURSDAY Nov.10.
Queen’s University Bader College – Nov.17
The Recruitment Coordinator for Queen’s University’s Bader College will be at Claremont to present Canada’s only first-year study abroad opportunity. Bader College is Queen’s University’s international campus based out of the beautiful Herstmonceux Castle estate in the UK. Students spend their first year of university studying abroad before returning to our Kingston, Ontario campus for the upper year studies. Presentation is THURSDAY, Nov. 17 at lunch in the Student Lounge.

Watch for more information to sign up for this event. The event will be at Claremont on THURSDAY November 24 in the Learning Commons.
Dual Credit Course: Early Learning & Care Program
Are you interested in making a difference in the lives of children? Perhaps considering a career as an Early Childhood Educator? Camosun has an Early Learning and Care Program starting in February. This is a dual-credit program, which gives you the certification to be an ELC Assistant. See Mr. Bussoli with questions or to sign up.

Broadmead Care is looking for day and afternoon staff within our facilities for Food Service (hours 7:00-3:00, 3:15-7:15, 4:00-7:00, Housekeeping (7:00-3:00, 3:15-11:15), and Screening (5:30-1:00, 11-4, 12-8, 8-4). They have 5 care homes from Sidney to James Bay, with our Royal Oak Lodge being the biggest.

Canadian Tire at Royal Oak is looking for energetic students who would like a part time job. We are looking for cashiers and floor staff for all departments (Automotive, Housewares, Hardware and Sports/Seasonal). Studio 63 Hair Studio & Food Bank Donations
Did you know that School District #63 has its own Hairstylist training program? Studio 63 offers Hairdressing training in partnership with Vancouver Island University. Studio 63 is located at the Saanichton Learning Centre, 1649 Mt Newton X Rd.
From Oct.24 – Dec. 1, Studio 63 is hosting a canned food drive in conjunction with their hair studio services, to support our local food bank.
Basic Haircut - $2 with canned food donation.

Peninsula Youth Clinic
The Peninsula Youth Clinic is located at 2379 Bevan Avenue in Sidney and is open every THURSDAY from 5:30-7:30pm for help with any medical concern (physical, mental, and sexual health).
