¬ GENERAL ANNOUNCEMENTS

NEW - Spartan Celebration Event: TUESDAY June 4

For TOMORROW (TUESDAY) Please note there will be a special timetable:

Block 1:        9:00 - 10:10am

Block 2:      10:15 - 11:30am  

Assembly:  11:40 - 12:20pm

Lunch:        12:20 - 12:50pm  ( warning bell rings at 12:50pm)

Block 3:      12:50  - 2:00pm

Block 4:        2:05  - 3:12pm

 

NEW - Work Experience

If you are taking Work Experience 12 NEXT YEAR and want to log your hours over the summer: Please come to the Career Centre and make an appointment to meet with Mr. Bussoli.  If you don't meet with him to get the correct paperwork, you WILL NOT be able to log your work hours over the summer.

 

Zero Café Is Selling Ice Cream!

Along with hot drinks and baked treats, the Zero Café is now selling ice cream cones at lunch time too!  There are 3 flavours to choose from. Cones are $3.

 

After School Homework Club

For all students who would like extra help in academic classes, help from Education Assistants is available four days a week (MONDAY-THURSDAY) for one hour after school in room 235. All academic subjects are welcome. This is open to all students in all grades.

NEW - Claremont Musical Theatre: “Anything Goes”

Congratulations to the cast, crew, and orchestra on an amazing 9 shows of “Anything Goes.”  And cheers to Mr Plant, Ms Giordano, Mrs. English, Lisa Simpson, Mr. Prevost and his woodshop students for their combined excellence in creating this funny and entertaining show!  BRAVO!!!

 

¬ ATHLETICS

NEW – Rugby

Congratulations to our Spartan Rugby teams who represented Claremont at the Provincials last week. The Spartan Girls team are the Provincial Champs, winning their 2nd Sevens Rugby Provincial Championship, back-to-back. The Senior Boys finished 6th place in Tier 2, which places them at 14th in the Provincials. Great work and congratulations to all athletes!  Go Spartans!

 

NEW - Girls Lacrosse

Girls going to the Denver Lacrosse Tournament: please attend a meeting TODAY at the beginning of lunch in the small gym.

 

NEW – CSI Rowing

The CSI Rowers competed last week at the Canadian Secondary School Rowing Association Championships. Our Spartans sprinted down the waters in St.Catherines, Ontario over the weekend to achieve 9 NATIONAL PODIUMS out of 17 events that raced.  Go Spartans!!

¬ GRAD 2024

NEW – Sign-up for Grad Banquet Tables – June 5 & 6

Grads, it is time to think about who you want to sit with at your grad banquet.  Seating is assigned for the dinner only; afterwards, everyone can move around freely and mingle.  Sign-up forms are available in the office NOW. Please come by to pick one up.  Sign-up will be THIS WEDNESDAY June 5 & THURSDAY June 6 at lunch in room 200.

Here are the details…..

1. Pick 1 friend to represent your group.

2. Tables can seat up to 10 guests. Your group can be from 1–10 people.  You don’t need 10 guests to submit a group.  (sign-up forms are in the office)

3. Names can only be on one list, so confirm the Grad (and Guest) want to be in your group.

4. Fill in a Sign-up Form of who is sitting at your table (No List = No Sign-up.)

     a. First and Last Name of Grad

     b. First and Last Name of the Guest.

5. WEDNESDAY June 5 & THURSDAY June 6 at lunchtime: one member of your group brings the list to Room 200 (in the Science wing).

6. If you don’t sign up by the end of lunch on Thursday June 6th, tables will be assigned for you.

 

Extra Grad Ceremony Tickets – June 3

Grads: UVic sent your first two tickets for the grad ceremony to your student school email on Friday May 31stExtra tickets for the grad ceremony will go on sale through the UVic Ticket Centre TODAY June 3rd at 9.30am.  Please call the UVic Ticket Centre directly, 250-721-8480 to book your extra tickets. Two tickets maximum, $10 per ticket.  All tickets must be booked under the graduating student’s name and will only be emailed to the student’s school email.

Please note this event has assigned seating with each ticket having a unique bar code relating to an individual seat.  Babies, even if being held, must have a ticket to enter the venue. Graduating students do not require a ticket to participate in graduation.

 

INDIGENOUS EDUCATION

June is National Indigenous History Month

June is National Indigenous History Month, and there will be lots of events popping up which gives everyone the opportunity to celebrate Indigenous culture!

On SATURDAY June 8th, the Change Makers Gathering Festival in Langford has drop-in Coast Salish art and cedar weaving workshops, performances by Indigenous drum and dance groups, an Indigenous artisans market, and a free bannock taco lunch! More info at this.

On FRIDAY June 21st, Royal Roads University is hosting their annual National Indigenous Peoples Day celebration from 10am to 3pm. The day will open with a performance from Lekwungen singers and dancers, followed by a welcome ceremony and traditional canoe landing protocol. There will be vendors and food trucks open all day, and more performances from drumming, singing, and dance groups will happen in the afternoon! There will also be canoe challenges/races and opportunities to join on plant walks with Quw'utsun (Cowichan) elder Kenneth Elliot.  More info at this LINK.

¬ CAREER CENTRE

NEW – Volunteer Opportunity

Here is a great opportunity to enjoy HarbourCats Baseball, while supporting Habitat For Humanity Victoria AND earning volunteer hours!  Volunteers are wanted for all home games of the 2024 HarbourCats season. The season starts soon. There are two volunteer options:

1.    HarbourCats Usher:  volunteers will help attendees find their seats, control foot traffic, answer questions, etc.

2.    Habitat Ambassador:  volunteers will man our information booth, engaging visitors, collecting donations, hosting games, etc.

Student Lifeguards Needed

Peninsula Youth Clinic

The Peninsula Youth Clinic is located at 2379 Bevan Avenue in Sidney and is open every THURSDAY from 5:30-7:30pm for help with any medical concern (physical, mental, and sexual health). Call 250-656-4143 to make an appointment with a physician or counsellor.  Services are 100% free, confidential, and explicitly inclusive of all genders and sexualities!
