¬ GENERAL ANNOUNCEMENTS

NEW - Ironman Victoria – Congratulations Ms. Laszlo

Congratulations to our very own Ms. Laszlo who competed at the Ironman Victoria competition yesterday, finishing in a time of 5 hours and 11 minutes. Her result has qualified her for the World Championships in Finland. Well done LAZZ!!!!!!

 

NEW - Winter Break 2024 – Trip to Cambodia, Vietnam, & Thailand

Are you interested in traveling to Cambodia, Vietnam, & Thailand during the winter break of 2024?  There will be an info meeting on WEDNESDAY, May 31st in room 327.  See Mr. Gardner for details.    dgardner@saanichschools.ca

 

Course Drop Date: June 2

The final date to drop a semester 2 course, and not have it show up on your transcript, is FRIDAY June 2.  Course drop forms can be picked up in the counselling office, and must be signed by a parent before meeting with a counsellor to make the formal drop.

 

TEAC105 Dual Credit Program - Explorations in Technology

For upcoming grade 11s and 12s:  there is still time to sign up for TEAC105 - Explorations in Technology! This course explores four technologies through inquiry, problem-solving, and project-based learning: Civil Engineering, Electronics, Mechanical Engineering, and Computer Science. This is a great Dual Credit opportunity.  See Mr. Bussoli as soon as possible, in room 217, or email him at rbussoli@saanichschools.ca

 

School Bus Registration For 2023-2024

Online school bus registration for next school year is open.  To register, you will need your Student #.  Registration link is on the Saanich School District website or HERE.

 

After School Homework Club

For all students who would like extra help in academic classes, help from Education Assistants is available four days a week (MONDAY-THURSDAY) for one hour after school in room 235. All academic subjects are welcome, but especially if you are struggling in Math & Science. This is open to all students in all grades.

Musical Theatre “The SpongeBob Musical”:  May 25 – June 3

“SpongeBob the Musical” continues this week with 5 final shows, WEDNESDAY thru SATURDAY. Please come see this hilarious and fun musical and support the cast, crew and orchestra. In-person & livestream tickets are on sale ONLINE (the link is on the Claremont website). Track & Field

If you are an athlete taking part in the BC Track and Field Championships, you must see Ms. Simmonds at some point TODAY.

 

Rowing

This past Saturday, a small but mighty group of Spartan rowers went to Long Lake in Nanaimo for a great day of racing! These rowers walked away with lots of podium finishes! Go Spartans!!

Grad Fundraiser:  Ongoing Bottle Drive

Coast Guard Days – June 1

If you are wondering about joining the Coast Guard, there are 10 spots left to attend the Coast Guard Days event downtown at the Huron Base, on THURSDAY, June 1, from 10:30-12:30. See Mrs. Watson in room 222 to sign up and get your Field Trip Form. Completed forms are due on TUESDAY, May 30.

The Crystal Pool is hiring for their Youth Leaders in Training program! The focus is on recreational leadership skills as well as public speaking, teamwork, communication and many other important life skills geared towards 14 to 18 year-olds. The program involves 1 week of leadership training at Crystal Pool in July, 4 weeks of placements in a City of Victoria summer camp from July to August, and various team building out-trips. PISE is hiring students, 15 years or older, for a part-time position as a Birthday Party Leader! This is a summer position, which may continue in the Fall. Info HERE.

Volunteer Opportunities

Cordova Bay Elementary PAC is looking for volunteers for a year-end bbq and fun fair on FRIDAY June 23, 4:00-7:00. Information & sign-up HERE

The Kidney Foundation of Canada is looking for volunteers for its 15th Annual Kidney Walk BC & Yukon, downtown at Clover Point, on June 4. Operation Trackshoes, June 9-11 – is looking for Volunteer Counsellors.

Science Venture is looking for volunteer Jr Camp Counsellors (STEM camps).

 

30 Hours of Work Experience/Volunteering

30 Hours of Work Experience OR Volunteering are required for Graduation. Hours can be counted from any grade. See Mrs. Watson in room 222 to find out how to confirm your 30 hours. If you're not working, there are lots of ideas for looking into Volunteerism.  You can discuss ideas with Mrs. Watson and she can point out a list of possibility volunteer opportunities.

Peninsula Youth Clinic

The Peninsula Youth Clinic is located at 2379 Bevan Avenue in Sidney and is open every THURSDAY from 5:30-7:30pm for help with any medical concern (physical, mental, and sexual health). Call 250-656-4143 to make an appointment with a physician or counsellor.  Services are 100% free, confidential, and explicitly inclusive of all genders and sexualities!
