¬ GENERAL ANNOUNCEMENTS

NEW - Element Winners

We are very excited to announce our April Element Winners!  Congratulations to Alec HOLLAND from the Fire Element, Ella EAST from the Earth Element, Tina OBA from the Water Element, and Alex TAYLOR  from the Air Element. Each of these students have gone above and beyond in a variety of ways to showcase their SPARTAN spirit. This month:

Alec is being acknowledged for his positivity and kindness in class. 

Ella is nominated for the Iceland video that she created.

Tina is nominated for her involvement in the international student orientation, tours and lunch meetings. 

Alex is nominated for showing leadership, maximum effort daily and support for his peers consistently. 

Keep up the good work students. Way to go SPARTANS!!!

 

NEW - AP Physics Cardboard Boat Competition

Claremont's Annual AP Physics Cardboard Boat Competition took place at Commonwealth Pool over the weekend.  Five original, handmade cardboard boats propelled students across the pool and Kate WATSON, in her boat “The Beauty Barge”, took first place.  Congratulations to all the teams!

 

Lost & Found

A heart earring, a heart necklace, and one single air pod in a black case were found. Please come to the office to claim them.

 

TEAC105 Dual Credit Program - Explorations in Technology

For upcoming grade 11s and 12s:  there is still time to sign up for TEAC105 - Explorations in Technology! This course explores four technologies through inquiry, problem-solving, and project-based learning: Civil Engineering, Electronics, Mechanical Engineering, and Computer Science. This is a great Dual Credit opportunity.  See Mr. Bussoli as soon as possible, in room 217, or email him at rbussoli@saanichschools.ca

 

School Bus Registration For 2023-2024

Online school bus registration for next school year is open.  To register, you will need your Student #.  Registration link is on the Saanich School District website or HERE.

 

After School Homework Club

For all students who would like extra help in academic classes, help from Education Assistants is available four days a week (MONDAY-THURSDAY) for one hour after school in room 235. All academic subjects are welcome, but especially if you are struggling in Math & Science. This is open to all students in all grades.

NEW - Musical Theatre “The SpongeBob Musical”:  May 25 – June 3

“SpongeBob the Musical” opens THIS THURSDAY! Please come see this hilarious and fun musical and support the cast, crew and orchestra. In-person & livestream tickets are on sale ONLINE (the link is on the Claremont website) or see Ms Waller in the accounts office. Info poster HERE.

 

¬ ATHLETICS

NEW - Rugby

Congratulations to our Girls Rugby Team who won first place at Islands last week in rugby 7’s. Way to go, Spartans!!

 

NEW - All rugby players: please go to Mr. Belvedere's room TODAY at lunch to pick up some paperwork.  This includes Senior and Junior Boys as well as Girls please.

 

NEW - Rugby Fundraisers

BBQ May 26 and Bottle Drive May 27

Attention Claremont.  There are two rugby fundraisers this week. 

First: there is a BBQ lunch THIS FRIDAY.  Cash is preferred, but you can also pay in advance by card all this week at the accounting office.  There will also be some cold treats on sale.

Second: there is a bottle drive THIS SATURDAY 10:00-2:00 in front of Claremont.  Thanks in advance for setting aside some bottles to help support the Senior Girls and Boys teams on their way to Provincials.

The last track practice or the season is TODAY. Please be there, especially if you are on a 4x100 relay team.

¬ GRAD 2023

NEW - Grad Rehearsal – May 24

Reminder to all grads that our grad ceremony rehearsal is TOMORROW (WEDNESDAY).  Please be in the Ridge Theatre no later than 8:45 a.m. so that we can organize the lineup for busses.

 

Grad Fundraiser:  Ongoing Bottle Drive

An easy way to support the 2023 Grad Class is by donating empty bottles and beverage containers throughout the school year until June at the Bottle Depot location at Glanford/Quadra.  Account name is “Claremont Grad 2023.” Thank you for supporting the grad class of 2023.

The Claremont Career Centre is an excellent place to find out about available jobs and volunteer positions.  Drop by to see Mrs. Watson in room 222 or email her at cwatson@saanichschools.ca for more information.  She has information about many jobs and volunteer positions, such as these:

B& C Foods – hiring warehouse workers.

Engineering for Kids Vancouver Island – hiring Lead & Assistant Camp Instructors.

KidsKlub Summer Camp – hiring camp leaders.

Saanich School District – hiring summer custodial staff.

 

Volunteer Opportunities

The Kidney Foundation of Canada is looking for volunteers for its 15th Annual Kidney Walk BC & Yukon, downtown at Clover Point, on June 4. Volunteers are needed from 9am-2pm for many positions, including: cheerleading, attending the snack/beverage table, setting-up/taking-down the event, working the sign-in table, and others...  Here is a LINK to more info: 2023 Kidney Walk BC & Yukon

Operation Trackshoes, June 9-11 – is looking for Volunteer Counsellors.

Science Venture is looking for volunteer Jr Camp Counsellors (STEM camps).

 

30 Hours of Work Experience/Volunteering

30 Hours of Work Experience OR Volunteering are required for Graduation. Hours can be counted from any grade. See Mrs. Watson in room 222 to find out how to confirm your 30 hours. If you're not working, there are lots of ideas for looking into Volunteerism.  You can discuss ideas with Mrs. Watson and she can point out a list of possibility volunteer opportunities.

PAC Fundraiser: Country Grocer Receipts

Here is an easy way to support your PAC year-round. Save your Country Grocer receipts and bring them to the school front office. We appreciate your participation in this fundraiser which will benefit our school community with up to $2000 in grocery gift cards.

Peninsula Youth Clinic

The Peninsula Youth Clinic is located at 2379 Bevan Avenue in Sidney and is open every THURSDAY from 5:30-7:30pm for help with any medical concern (physical, mental, and sexual health). Call 250-656-4143 to make an appointment with a physician or counsellor.  Services are 100% free, confidential, and explicitly inclusive of all genders and sexualities!
