¬ GENERAL ANNOUNCEMENTS

2023-2024 Course Selection Forms – Due March 3

Reminder to please return the course selection forms for next year’s classes by TOMORROW (FRIDAY).  We encourage families to have thoughtful conversations about course choices before making selections.  Please be sure about your choices before submitting your form.  Applications for Programs of Choice are also due back in the office by FRIDAY (attached to your Course Selection Form).

 

2023-2024 Course Book

The digital Course Book for the 2023-2024 school year is posted on the Claremont website on the Registration Page. Families can familiarize themselves with course offerings, specialty programs and pathways to graduation.

 

Dual Credits Courses – Info Poster

Students interested in Dual Credit Courses, check out the info poster by the Student Lounge! Each course is outlined, with information about course topics, pre-requisites, credits gained, and more. You can also see these descriptions in the digital Course Book for 2023-24.

 

Encourage kids to READ

Come to the Learning Commons, grab a bookmark and colour them - then we'll send them to Lochside and Cordova Bay Elementary students. Choose from a variety of designs.

 

After School Homework Club

For all students who would like extra help in academic classes, help from Education Assistants is available four days a week (MONDAY-THURSDAY) for one hour after school in room 235. All academic subjects are welcome, but especially if you are struggling in Math & Science. This is open to all students in all grades.

 

Breakfast Club

The Breakfast Club is running on TUESDAY and THURSDAY mornings (before block 1) at the Spartan Store.  All students are welcome to come by for a bagel (with choice of spreads) and a juice box. Items are $.25 each.

Senior Boys Rugby

All Senior Boys Rugby players: please come to an important meeting TODAY at the very start of lunch in Mr Belvedere's room 134.

 

Track & Field

Track & Field practice is TODAY at 3:30 in the small gym.

 

Girls Soccer – Tryouts This Week

Junior Girls Soccer: tryouts are TODAY right after school at Lochside Park.  Please arrange rides to get to Lochside.  We will start at 3:30 sharp.

Senior Girls Soccer: tryouts are next week: TUESDAY, March 7 after school until 4:30 AND THURSDAY, March 9th after school until 4:30.

 

Senior Girls’ Basketball

The Senior Girls' basketball team play in the quarter-finals of Provincials tonight!  Come watch the live stream of the game TONIGHT at 7:00 pm in our Ridge Theatre!  Don't forget to wear red!

Trivia Club

There will be a Trivia Game on FRIDAY at lunchtime in room 322.  And there will be prizes!!  See Ms. Stover for details.

Grad Fundraiser:  Krispy Kreme Donuts – March 4

Krispy Kreme Donuts will be on sale THIS SATURDAY March 4th, 11:00-3:00, at 2 locations: Royal Oak Plaza (Co-Op) and Broadmead Plaza (Canadian Tire) and we are also doing PRE-SALES.  Parents, we need your help as well with selling the donuts with the students.  More info about organizing pre-sales is HERE. Grad Fundraiser: Purdy’s Easter Chocolates

It is never too early to think about chocolate!  From now until March 20th, you can order Purdy’s treats from our fundraiser by joining our campaign and browsing the tastiest selection of Easter chocolates online. More info about chocolates is HERE.         Thank you for your continued support.

 

Grad Fundraiser:  Ongoing Bottle Drive

An easy way to support the 2023 Grad Class is by donating empty bottles and beverage containers throughout the school year until June at the Bottle Depot location at Glanford/Quadra.  Account name is “Claremont Grad 2023.” Thank you for supporting the grad class of 2023.

 

¬ CAREER CENTRE

Student Volunteer Opportunity

The volunteer team at the Saanich Peninsula Youth Health Clinic is recruiting new volunteers for their Peer Health Educator program.  This is a friendly, confidential and supportive service aimed at helping patients feel more informed and ready for when they meet with the doctor at the clinic.  New volunteers will participate in a weekly training commitment of 2 hours on Thursday evenings from 5:30-7:30pm. The clinic runs through the summer, so volunteers should be available throughout July and August as well.  Applications due March 23.  For more information see Mrs. Watson in room 222, or email her at cwatson@saanichschools.ca

Summer Employment with Saanich School District

Grade 12 Students: The Saanich School District #63 will be hiring summer staff in the Custodial Department!  Full-time, union positions will be available from the end of June until end of August, with the opportunity for continuing employment.  Earn competitive wages vs. minimum wage.  You must have your own transportation, and you must be a graduate by the end of June. ¬ NEWS FROM CLAREMONT PAC

Join the CPAC Exec Team

We are starting to look ahead to the next school year. If you’re interested in joining the CPAC Exec, please reach out to our team!  A few Exec team members will be leaving this year as their grade 12 kids graduate, so we welcome new team members. During the school year, CPAC Exec holds a parent meeting once a month except for December and March. We’d like to hold the AGM this year in May.

MARCH - A Conversation for Families About Digital Wellbeing & Mental Health.

As parents, we struggle with balancing our children’s time spent in the digital world and what we consider the real world. It’s not easy to know how much time spent on technology is too much and how to set boundaries that don’t create conflict. Join us for a conversation with Dr. Kristy Goodwin, Digital Wellbeing and Productivity Researcher, Speaker, Author and Consultant to learn some practical solutions to our everyday concerns and challenges around our kids’ use of screens and their mental health.

Peninsula Youth Clinic

The Peninsula Youth Clinic is located at 2379 Bevan Avenue in Sidney and is open every THURSDAY from 5:30-7:30pm for help with any medical concern (physical, mental, and sexual health). Call 250-656-4143 to make an appointment with a physician or counsellor.  Services are 100% free, confidential, and explicitly inclusive of all genders and sexualities!
