¬ GENERAL ANNOUNCEMENTS

After School Homework Club

For all students who would like extra help in academic classes, help from Education Assistants is available four days a week (MONDAY-THURSDAY) for one hour after school in room 235. All academic subjects are welcome, but especially if you are struggling in Math & Science. This is open to all students in all grades.

 

Breakfast Club

The Breakfast Club is running on TUESDAY and THURSDAY mornings (before block 1) at the Spartan Store.  All students are welcome to come by for a bagel (with choice of spreads) and a juice box. Items are $.25 each.

Curling

For anyone interested in curling on the Claremont team: there will be a meeting THIS WEDNESDAY at lunch in room 312.  Everyone welcome; no experience necessary.  Please see Mr. Freeburn if you can't make the meeting.

Chess Club

Chess Club is starting up TODAY and will run every day, MONDAY to FRIDAY, at lunch in room 327.  Meet in Mr. Gardner’s room 327 TODAY for more details. Everyone welcome.

 

Dungeons & Dragons

Are you interested in Dungeons and Dragons? Come to Mr. Horncastle’s Room 207 TOMORROW (TUESDAY) at lunch for find out more.

 

NEW: American Sign Language Club

Our new ASL club started last week (American Sign Language).  There was so much interest that the club is moving to a larger meeting space.  The ASL Club will run on TUESDAYS and THURSDAYS at lunch upstairs in room 300. Come try a new language that supports inclusivity. Everyone welcome.

Pizza Lunch

For all International students: there is a pizza lunch THIS WEDNESDAY at 11:48 in the Learning Commons.

 

¬ GRAD 2023

Grad Photos & Retakes – Jan 23,24,25

Online Booking for Grad Photos and Retakes is open!  Dates are: January 23, 24, & 25 at Claremont School (in the Lifetouch portable photo trailer). You can book your session at: prestigeportraits.ca

If you are scheduling a first-time appointment, a $30 sitting fee will be due at the time of your appointment. 

If you are scheduling an appointment for retakes, please bring your original proof package with you.  You can find the LINK and photo information on the Grad Google Classroom.

Grad Fundraiser:  Ongoing Bottle Drive

An easy way to support the 2023 Grad Class is by donating empty bottles and beverage containers throughout the school year until June at the Bottle Depot location at Glanford/Quadra.  Account name is “Claremont Grad 2023.” Thank you for supporting the grad class of 2023.

 

¬ CAREER CENTRE

CUE (Canadian Universities Event – Jan.19

CUE (Canadian Universities Event) will be hosting a virtual event for students on January 19.  The event allows students to visit with university reps from over 50 Canadian post-secondary institutions.  This event is geared towards Grade 11 and 12 students and their supporters.

Each university will have a drop-in style virtual booth where students can choose which universities they wish to visit and can ask questions about programs, admissions, scholarships, housing and more.  THURSDAY Jan.19, 6:00-8:00pm.  Registration at www.cuebc.org

 

Parents as Education & Career Coaches – Jan.11

Come join our virtual “Parents as Education & Career Coaches” (PECC) Workshop to learn how you can help support your student in planning for their future. The information will be especially helpful for families with students in Grades 10-12. Sessions are engaging and informative, and include a Q&A.

District of Saanich: Job Fair – Jan.26

The District of Saanich and the Saanich Police Department are holding a Job Fair!  Join the event and meet with hiring managers and representatives from Engineering, Parks, IT, Planning, and other departments.

Summer Employment with Saanich School District

Grade 12 Students: The Saanich School District #63 will be hiring summer staff in the Custodial Department!  Full-time, union positions will be available from the end of June until end of August, with the opportunity for continuing employment.  Earn competitive wages vs. minimum wage.  You must have your own transportation, and you must be a graduate by the end of June. Here is an easy way to support your PAC year-round. Save your Country Grocer receipts and bring them to the school front office. We appreciate your participation in this fundraiser which will benefit our school community with up to $2000 in grocery gift cards.

Peninsula Youth Clinic

The Peninsula Youth Clinic is located at 2379 Bevan Avenue in Sidney and is open every THURSDAY from 5:30-7:30pm for help with any medical concern (physical, mental, and sexual health). Call 250-656-4143 to make an appointment with a physician or counsellor.  Services are 100% free, confidential, and explicitly inclusive of all genders and sexualities!
