¬ GENERAL ANNOUNCEMENTS

NEW – Women’s Rugby World Cup Semifinals 

We will be screening the Women’s Rugby World Cup semifinals TODAY at lunch in the School Theater. All students and staff are welcome to come watch, show your support, and cheer on Canada or New Zealand!

 

NEW – Pro-D This MONDAY

Reminder that there will be no school for students this MONDAY Sept 22nd, as all staff will be participating in our annual Professional Development Day.

 

Spartan Day – Sept.25

Our first Spartan Day of the year is THURSDAY Sept 25. We typically have 3 Spartan Days a year to celebrate the Spartan Nation and also give back to our community in some way. On Spartan Days we wear RED!!  This year, we will be raising funds for the Terry Fox Foundation. 

 

NEW - On TUESDAY, WEDNESDAY & THURSDAY next week (Sept 23, 24, 25), we encourage all students and staff to donate "TOONIES FOR TERRY." Please make donations in your block 2 class or at the front office.

 

Pizza Fundraiser TODAY

In support of our school's Terry Fox Foundation fundraiser, the Leadership class will be selling pizza at lunch TODAY Sept.19th in the cafeteria. Slices are $2.50. 

 

Zero Café

The Zero Cafe is open for coffee, tea, or croissants in the IGS room (room 264) before school or at lunch. Reasonable prices!

NEW – Creative Writing Club

The Creative Writing Club has its first meeting TODAY at lunch in room 301. They will meet every FRIDAY.

 

Gender and Sexuality Alliance 

The Claremont GSA, that's the Gender and Sexuality Alliance, is having its first meeting this TODAY at lunch in the textiles room (room 276). The GSA is a student-driven social club that is open to all.  Even if you haven't attended before, feel free to pop by to say hi and chat about the week.

 

Japanese Language and Cultural Club

The first meeting of the Japanese Language and Cultural Club is TODAY at lunch in room 302 with Ms. Ryall. 

 

NEW – IBPOC Club

The IBPOC Club will be meeting next WEDNESDAY, Sept. 24th, in room 201. This is a social group for IBPOC students to gather, socialize, and share ideas.

**Grad Parent Meeting - Sept 23rd @ 7:45pm 

Our first official Grad Parent meeting of the year will be in person on TUESDAY Sept 23rd @ 7:45pm in our Learning Commons, open to all Grad Parents/Guardians.  There will be an overview presentation of important Grad topics, including events being planned, fundraising goals and opportunities, and a chance to volunteer for positions on our Grad Parent Executive Committee

¬ INDIGENOUS EDUCATION

Day of Truth & Reconciliation – Sept.30 

Day of Truth & Reconciliation is a National day of remembrance and awareness in Canada to honour the survivors of residential school, as well as the children who never made it home. It is an opportunity for all of us to reflect on the ongoing impacts of the residential school system and our shared responsibility in the process of reconciliation. 

 

South Island Powwow – Sept 30

Community Event: The 4th annual South Island Powwow is an opportunity to recognize Survivors and their families in the spirit of reconciliation. This is a wonderful opportunity to celebrate traditional Indigenous cultures and resiliency through song and dance.

TUESDAY September 30th, at Royal Athletic Park.  Gates open at 10:00am (Grand Entry at 12:00 noon). FREE admission, everyone welcome.  Həyšxʷq́ə

A representative from McGill University will be at Claremont on TUESDAY, September 23, 2:30-3:30, at a table near the front office. Come by and hear about their programs and application requirements!

 

UVic's Gustavson School of Business info – Sept.29

UVic's Gustavson School of Business will have an information booth at Claremont on THURSDAY, September 25 at lunch near the front office. Come hear about the Business program, and how to apply.

 

Work Experience Credits

If you are a student currently working and interested in earning work experience credits, please visit the Career Centre as soon as possible.

 

Police Camp – Spring Break 2026

Police Camp is back, for Spring Break 2026!  Police Camp is a unique youth leadership program for students in Grades 10-12 that have an interest in exploring policing and public safety.

Students will spend one week experiencing classroom lectures, physical activity, group discussions and simulations supervised by dozens of police staff.

Mark your calendars: the Police Camp information meeting is on WEDNESDAY, October 8 at lunch in the Learning Commons, then see Mr. Bussoli in the Career Centre (Room 217) to apply. Application Deadline: Nov 14, 2025.

All parents/guardians are invited to the first PAC meeting of the 25/26 school year, on TUESDAY Sept 23rd at 7:00pm in our Learning Commons. You can either attend in person in our LC or join us online using the following MEETING LINK

 

PAC Fundraiser: Country Grocer Receipts

Here is an easy way to support your PAC year-round. Save your Country Grocer receipts and bring them to the school front office.  We appreciate your participation in this fundraiser, which will benefit our school community with up to $2000 in grocery gift cards.

 

¬ ONGOING REMINDERS

NEW - Student Drivers

Reminder to all students who are parking their vehicles in the student parking lot: you are required to be registered with the school.  Permission forms and parking passes ($2 each) are available with Mrs. Waller in the Accounting office; students will be required to show their drivers licence, their insurance papers, and their ICBC Driver’s Abstract.

 

If a Student is Absent or Late

Parents are asked to please email your student’s teacher AND the Attendance Line if your student will be absent or late for class. The Link for the Claremont Attendance Line is always quick to find on the Quick Links on the Claremont website’s home page: claremont_attendance@saanichschools.ca 

 

Student Information Verification Forms

If students still have their completed Student Info Verification Forms in their backpacks, please bring them to the office, so we can make any necessary changes in our information system!

COMMUNITY NEWS

Peninsula Youth Clinic at Shoreline Medical

At this Youth Clinic, services are 100% free, confidential, and explicitly inclusive of all genders and sexualities! This clinic operates on THURSDAYS, 5:30 pm – 7:30 pm, for Mental and Sexual Health education (there is no physician scheduled). Appointments with a physician are offered on FRIDAYS from 10:00 am – 12:00pm.  Both telehealth and in-person appointments are offered for our physicians and counselors.
