¬ GENERAL ANNOUNCEMENTS

Drop Date Deadline For Courses – May 31

Important Notice for all students (especially grade 11 and 12 students): TODAY is the last official day to drop a course from your timetable, so it doesn’t show up on your transcript. Please ensure that if you still need to drop a course, you check in with one of our school counsellors.

 

NEW – Zero Café Is Selling Ice Cream!

Along with hot drinks and baked treats, the Zero Café is now selling ice cream cones at lunch time too!  There are 3 flavours to choose from. Cones are $3.

 

After School Homework Club

For all students who would like extra help in academic classes, help from Education Assistants is available four days a week (MONDAY-THURSDAY) for one hour after school in room 235. All academic subjects are welcome. This is open to all students in all grades.

 

New School Bus Registration Information

If you plan to ride the school bus next year, there is new information about FEES and registration.  Please see all information on the SD63 website Transportation page: saanichschools.ca/resources/studentsfamilies/transportation.  

 

¬ FINE ARTS

Claremont Musical Theatre Presents: “Anything Goes”… May 23 - June 1

Last two days!  “Anything Goes” continues TONIGHT and SATURDAY. This is a very funny and entertaining show: a classic Broadway musical set in the 1930s on a ship headed from New York to England, with music by Cole Porter and lots of laughs! We have about 75 students involved in the production in our cast, crew and orchestra. It's a fun night out, with lots of laughs!

The last 3 shows are TONIGHT at 7pm and SATURDAY at 1pm and 7pm.  All tickets are $17.50 in advance or $20 at the door. Purchase tickets through your SD63 online account LINK or in person at the accounting office.  For questions, please call Mrs. Waller at 250-658-5221 ext. 81572.

There is a paid score keeping opportunity THIS WEEKEND at Claremont! 20$/hr. Other locations also include PISE, UVIC, Oak Bay, SMUS, and PCS!  Please see Ms. Dheensaw or Mr. Dunlop for more information on how to sign up!

NEW - IBPOC (Indigenous, Black, People of Colour) Affinity Group– “Share Your Heritage” Spirit Day” TODAY

TODAY is our first ‘Share Your Heritage’ Spirit Day, which has been promoted on our Instagram page! Students and staff wearing cultural attire, dressed in the colours of their flag, or wearing what they feel represents their culture and heritage are encouraged to go to the Student Lounge at lunch to enter a draw for a $50 Thrifty’s gift card! Let’s celebrate diversity at Claremont and get your photo taken for Instagram!

¬ GRAD 2024

NEW – Sign-up for Grad Banquet Tables – June 5 & 6

Grads, it is time to think about who you want to sit with at your grad banquet.  Seating is assigned for the dinner only; afterwards, everyone can move around freely and mingle.  Sign-up forms are available in the office NOW. Please come by to pick one up.  Sign-up will be WEDNESDAY June 5 & THURSDAY June 6 at lunch in room 200.

Here are the details…..

1. Pick 1 friend to represent your group.

2. Tables can seat up to 10 guests. Your group can be from 1–10 people.  You don’t need 10 guests to submit a group.  (sign-up forms are in the office)

3. Names can only be on one list, so confirm the Grad (and Guest) want to be in your group.

4. Fill in a Sign-up Form of who is sitting at your table (No List = No Sign-up.)

     a. First and Last Name of Grad

     b. First and Last Name of the Guest.

5. WEDNESDAY June 5 & THURSDAY June 6 at lunchtime: one member of your group brings the list to Room 200 (in the Science wing).

6. If you don’t sign up by the end of lunch on Thursday June 6th, tables will be assigned for you.

 

Extra Grad Ceremony Tickets – June 3

Grads: UVic is currently preparing each student’s first two tickets for the grad ceremony.  They will be sent directly to the student’s school email TODAY (May 31st).

Extra tickets for the grad ceremony will go on sale through the UVic Ticket Centre on MONDAY June 3rd at 9.30am.  Please call the UVic Ticket Centre directly, 250-721-8480 to book your extra tickets. Two tickets maximum, $10 per ticket.  All tickets must be booked under the graduating student’s name and will only be emailed to the student’s school email.

 

Please note this event has assigned seating with each ticket having a unique bar code relating to an individual seat.  Babies, even if being held, must have a ticket to enter the venue. Graduating students do not require a ticket to participate in graduation.

 

INDIGENOUS EDUCATION

NEW - June is National Indigenous History Month

June is National Indigenous History Month, and there will be lots of events popping up which gives everyone the opportunity to celebrate Indigenous culture!

On SATURDAY June 8th, the Change Makers Gathering Festival in Langford has drop-in Coast Salish art and cedar weaving workshops, performances by Indigenous drum and dance groups, an Indigenous artisans market, and a free bannock taco lunch! More info at this LINK.

On FRIDAY June 21st, Royal Roads University is hosting their annual National Indigenous Peoples Day celebration from 10am to 3pm. The day will open with a performance from Lekwungen singers and dancers, followed by a welcome ceremony and traditional canoe landing protocol. There will be vendors and food trucks open all day, and more performances from drumming, singing, and dance groups will happen in the afternoon! There will also be canoe challenges/races and opportunities to join on plant walks with Quw'utsun (Cowichan) elder Kenneth Elliot.  More info at this LINK.

Volunteers Opportunity (SATURDAY June 1)

Access Awareness Day, is being held in Sidney at the Shoal Centre.  Access Awareness is a comprehensive campaign to raise awareness about disability, accessibility and social inclusion.  Volunteer are needed to help with set up, take down, serving coffee and cookies, and other support tasks.  Event is THIS SATURDAY June 1, 9am-12pm OR 12pm-3pm at Shoal Centre:- 10030 Resthaven Drive, Sidney.  To sign up, email: yep@beaconcs.ca

 

Volunteer Opportunity (SATURDAY June 1)

Volunteers are needed at Kids Art in the Park at the Brentwood Bay Festival!  This is a fun community event, where there will be a parade, and variety of vendors and entertainers. Volunteers are needed to help lead kids through art activities and crafts.

Volunteer Opportunity (FRIDAY May 31)

Northridge Elementary School (on Carey Rd.) is planning a Fun Fair at their school, and they need volunteers to help with face painting, and assisting with games and activities.  Event is TODAY May 31, 4-9pm. Student Lifeguards Needed

NEW - Staff Appreciation Luncheon

Thank you so much to our CPAC and Claremont families for Wednesday’s incredible Charcuterie Staff Appreciation Luncheon.  WOW!  The beautiful arrangement and impressive variety of food on the table was outstanding and delicious.  What a thoughtful treat! The staff team thoroughly enjoyed the amazing spread of food, and we feel very appreciated.  ** There are a few leftover food containers being stored in the office for students or parents to pick up.**

 

PAC Fundraiser: Country Grocer Receipts

Here is an easy way to support your PAC year-round. Save your Country Grocer receipts and bring them to the school front office.  We appreciate your participation in this fundraiser, which will benefit our school community with up to $2000 in grocery gift cards.

Peninsula Youth Clinic

The Peninsula Youth Clinic is located at 2379 Bevan Avenue in Sidney and is open every THURSDAY from 5:30-7:30pm for help with any medical concern (physical, mental, and sexual health). Call 250-656-4143 to make an appointment with a physician or counsellor.  Services are 100% free, confidential, and explicitly inclusive of all genders and sexualities!
