Happy Chinese New Year!!

NEW - Happy Chinese New Year!!

Tomorrow is the first day of Chinese New Year, the Year of the Dragon!!  Did you know that people born in the year of the Dragon are often seen as confident, ambitious, and adventurous? They are also known to be passionate, strong-willed, and have excellent leadership qualities. Happy Chinese New Year to all!

Valentine Candy Grams

The Claremont Leadership class is making Candy Grams for Valentine’s Day. They will be on sale TODAY and MONDAY at lunch time in the Student Lounge for $2 and will be delivered on Valentines Day in block 3.  Come spread some kindness and treat a friend.

 

Xavier Pelletier High School Internship Program – Info Feb.9

The Xavier Pelletier High School Internship Program (HSIP) is an 8-week summer program that runs from July-August each summer at the BC Cancer Agency’s Trev and Joyce Deeley Research Center in Victoria.  This program offers Grade 11 students the opportunity to explore cancer research from the front lines, learning the latest techniques in the fight against cancer today and setting the ground for the future. Any interested Grade 11 students are asked to meet TODAY at lunch in Room 200 (Ms. McAvoy's Room) for more details on this opportunity.

 

NEW - Senior Social Studies Trip - Info Feb.13

Are you wanting an adventure before the end of the school year? We are excited to announce the Senior Social Studies trip from June 5th to 8th. Some destinations include Mt. St. Helens & Ape Caves Lava Tubes, Great Wolf Lodge, Seattle, Museum of Pop Culture, Climate Pledge Arena, and a Boeing Factory Tour. To learn more about this trip and to secure your spot, come to our first meeting on TUESDAY Feb 13 at lunch in room 327 with Mr. Gardner and Ms. Turnbull. There is limited availability, and it will be popular, so don't miss out. See you on TUESDAY at lunch!  

 

Twin Day – Feb.14

Our next school-wide theme day is TWIN DAY on Feb. 14th, Valentine’s Day.  Grab your bestie or group of friends and coordinate your outfits. There will be an Elements competition at lunch for the best outfits. Get creative!

 

Peer Tutoring

Work with a Peer Tutor and keep up with your work this semester!  See Mrs. Wadsworth in the Learning Commons for more information.

 

Regional South Island Skills Canada Competitions

Registration for this year's Regional South Island Skills Canada Competitions will be open soon!  Online or face-to-face competitions will be held, covering areas like automotive, baking, hairstyling, welding, electronics, pipe trades, job search, photography, and more...  Competitions will be in March, with the deadline for registration mid-February. See Mr. Bussoli in the Career Centre (Room 217) if you are interested in competing.

Valentine’s Music Café – Feb.14

Claremont's Valentine’s Music Cafe is on WEDNESDAY Feb 14 @ 7pm in the Learning Commons. Buy your tickets every day at lunch at the theatre box office to enjoy an evening of fun music, refreshments and silent auction treasures. Come support our very talented students! Tickets are $15.

Sr Boys BBall

If you like pizza, TODAY is a great day to come buy some pizza for lunch at the cafeteria to help support Senior Boys Basketball. There will likely be a few candy bags ($2.00) for sale too. Thank you for supporting our Spartans!

If you are interested in joining the track and field team at Claremont this year, please come to a meeting THIS MONDAY, February 12th, at the start of lunch in room 321.

 

Girls Soccer Tryouts

Junior girls – next tryouts are on TUESDAY Feb 13.  See Mr. Reisig if you have a conflict.

Senior girls – tryouts are on TUESDAY Feb 13 and THURSDAY Feb 15.  Please see Ms Yager if you have a conflict.

 

Indoor Soccer: Spartan Soccer Showdown

Are you interesting in playing indoor soccer and meeting new people? Then, the Leadership students who are running the "Spartan Soccer Showdown" want you to sign up. You will see the QR codes on posters around the school and the link has also been posted on the Claremont Instagram. Please see Mr. Dunlop if you have any questions.

Math Club

Sign up for the Pascal/Cayley/Fermat math contests on the bulletin board outside room133.  These are the easiest of all the University of Waterloo math contests, so they are good ones to try if you have never tried one before.  See Mr. Skanks for details.

Grad Fundraiser – Easter Chocolate

Volunteer Opportunity – Running PowerPoint

Cordova Bay United Church (next door to Claremont) is looking for 1-2 student volunteers to run the PowerPoints and to livestream, during the church services. A student recruitment rep from Camosun College will be visiting Claremont on TUESDAY, February 13th at lunch time in the Career Centre (Room 217). The info session will cover applications, programs, and student life at Camosun... Don't miss it!

 

Camosun Student Service Fair – Feb. 13

Camosun is hosting a Student Service Fair at the Interurban Campus on TUESDAY February 13th from 5pm-7pm. This is a great chance to explore the range of services available and partake in some mini-tours of the facilities. Registration isn't required - just show up!

 

NEW - Peninsula Emergency Measures Organization (PEMO) – March Field Trip Alert!

PEMO is hosting an open house at the Sidney Fire Hall in March. Date is still to be determined, but it will be a day of learning what life is like working in emergency response and what career and volunteer opportunities are available. If you're interested, sign up in the Career Centre (Room 217). More info to come; stay tuned!

 

¬ NEWS FROM CLAREMONT PAC

Planning for New PAC Exec

As we plan ahead - the AGM to vote for the new CPAC Exec for the 2024/25 school year will take place in May. This year we have 3 Exec members leaving with students in grade 12 graduating. We have begun our recruitment early!

 

See the link below for the CPAC Constitution which details high-level the different roles. Please reach out to claremontpacsd63@gmail.com if you’re interested. The team is open to discussing any details to help fulfill these roles. Please note that the time commitment is significantly less vs. Elementary or Middle School PACS, which will help with parent busy schedules.

Peninsula Youth Clinic

The Peninsula Youth Clinic is located at 2379 Bevan Avenue in Sidney and is open every THURSDAY from 5:30-7:30pm for help with any medical concern (physical, mental, and sexual health). Call 250-656-4143 to make an appointment with a physician or counsellor.  Services are 100% free, confidential, and explicitly inclusive of all genders and sexualities!
