¬ GENERAL ANNOUNCEMENTS

New: ON-LINE Report Cards – Feb. 8

New to SD63: Student report cards will now be distributed by way of an on-line student portal.  As of THIS WEDNESDAY Feb 8th at 3pm, students will be able to login and access their report cards (PDF version) at any point after this date/time.  A Saanich Student portal link will be sent BY EMAIL to all students and their primary contacts on WEDNESDAY (and it will only be accessible using student information).  The link will not be live until 3pm on WEDNESDAYStudents: double check that you can access your school email please.

 

AP Chem Meeting

For all AP Chemistry students: please come to a quick meeting TODAY at the start of lunch in room 206.

 

Lost & Found

A set of rings were found in the girls’ change room on MONDAY.  Please come to the office to claim them

 

After School Homework Club

For all students who would like extra help in academic classes, help from Education Assistants is available four days a week (MONDAY-THURSDAY) for one hour after school in room 235. All academic subjects are welcome, but especially if you are struggling in Math & Science. This is open to all students in all grades.

 

Breakfast Club

The Breakfast Club is running on TUESDAY and THURSDAY mornings (before block 1) at the Spartan Store.  All students are welcome to come by for a bagel (with choice of spreads) and a juice box. Items are $.25 each.

Basketball – Senior Night Tonight

TONIGHT is Senior Night for our graduating seniors on the girls and boys BBall teams.

The Sr Girls play Lambrick at 5:45 pm and the boys play rival Oak Bay at 7:30 pm. In between games we'll spend a little time recognizing each of the players.  Come by to watch some great basketball. Let’s fill the stands with RED to cheer on our Spartans!

Robotics Club

Any grade 9 students interested in learning about Claremont's robotics program, please come to a meeting TODAY at lunch in room 133.

 

Spirit Club – Valentine Candy Grams

Valentine Candy Grams are on sale TODAY until FRIDAY at lunch in the Student Lounge for $2. They will be delivered on Valentines Day.  Come spread some love and treat a friend; all proceeds will go to the Victoria Pride Society.

 

Key Club – in Need of Old T-Shirts

The Key Club is making DIY dog toys for the Broken Promises Rescue Centre, and needs 100% cotton, clean T-shirts in ALL colours and sizes. Drop-off is at the front office every day until NEXT WEDNESDAY Feb. 22nd. Your help is much appreciated!

Our next pizza lunch for International Students is TOMORROW (WEDNESDAY) in the Learning Commons. Come and welcome our new arrivals, share stories and see what is happening at Claremont in February.

Grad Fundraiser:  Ongoing Bottle Drive

An easy way to support the 2023 Grad Class is by donating empty bottles and beverage containers throughout the school year until June at the Bottle Depot location at Glanford/Quadra.  Account name is “Claremont Grad 2023.” Thank you for supporting the grad class of 2023.

Employment Opportunities

Butchart Gardens Job Fair – Feb.9

Butchart Gardens will be holding their 2023 Job Fair on THIS THURSDAY Feb.9, from 5:30-7:30pm.  Bring your resume and meet the hiring team. The Gardens generally hire for five departments for the summer season:

Food Services: The Gardens has several restaurants which require waitstaff, cashiers, bus persons, and counter-service persons.  We also have two kitchen facilities which produce a la carte, pastry, and industrial production.

Visitor Services: Primarily an outdoor position, responsibilities include pedestrian and vehicle traffic control, grounds maintenance, collecting admissions, and all other services provided for our international and local visitors.

Custodial Services: These positions require work both indoors and outdoors.  Responsibilities include maintenance of administrative buildings, visitor and staff washroom facilities, and garbage collection.

Seed & Gift Store: These positions require work both behind-the-scenes and with our visitors.  Responsibilities include extensive merchandise knowledge, cash transactions, unpacking, stocking and reconciling paperwork.

Gardening: Primarily outdoor positions or work in our Plant Identification Centre.  Most positions require eight hour shifts of heavy to moderate labour and require good public relations skills.

 

Island Health – Feb.21

An Employment Recruiter from Island Health will be visiting Claremont to provide information about their casual positions in food services and housekeeping.  Positions are available on weekends and during summer break, and are open to students in Grades 10 -12.  TUESDAY, February 21 @ lunch time in the Student Lounge.

 

Career and Post-Secondary Education Event – Feb.23

Black Press is hosting a Career and Post-Secondary Education Event! Don't miss this opportunity to learn about education and job options from more than 60 businesses or schools in our community.  THURSDAY, February 23, 11am-3pm at the Bay Street Armoury (715 Bay Street).  A list of some of the presenters is HERE.

Skills Canada Competitions

Registration for this year's Regional South Island Skills Canada Competitions will be open soon!  Online or face-to-face competitions will be held, covering areas like automotive, baking, hairstyling, welding, electronics, pipe trades, job search, photography, and more...

Competitions will be in March, with the deadline for registration mid-February. Keep watching announcements for more information.  See Mr. Bussoli in room 217 if you are interested in competing. More information HERE.

 

Summer Employment with Saanich School District

Grade 12 Students: The Saanich School District #63 will be hiring summer staff in the Custodial Department!  Full-time, union positions will be available from the end of June until end of August, with the opportunity for continuing employment.  Earn competitive wages vs. minimum wage.  You must have your own transportation, and you must be a graduate by the end of June. The Peninsula Youth Clinic is located at 2379 Bevan Avenue in Sidney and is open every THURSDAY from 5:30-7:30pm for help with any medical concern (physical, mental, and sexual health). Call 250-656-4143 to make an appointment with a physician or counsellor.  Services are 100% free, confidential, and explicitly inclusive of all genders and sexualities!
