¬ GENERAL ANNOUNCEMENTS

Course Changes

Course Change Forms cannot be dropped off without the student seeing a counsellor.  Whether you are requesting to add a course or drop a course, and even if your teacher says you can join their class, you still need to see a counsellor. The counsellors are working hard to accommodate drop-in appointments at this busy time, but it is great if you can make an appointment by seeing Mrs. Watson in the Career Centre (Room 217). Thank you!

 

Regional South Island Skills Canada Competitions

Registration for this year's Regional South Island Skills Canada Competitions will be open soon!  Online or face-to-face competitions will be held, covering areas like automotive, baking, hairstyling, welding, electronics, pipe trades, job search, photography, and more...  Competitions will be in March, with the deadline for registration mid-February. See Mr. Bussoli in the Career Centre (Room 217) if you are interested in competing.

 

¬ FINE ARTS

Valentine’s Music Café – Feb.14

Claremont's Valentine’s Music Cafe is happening next WEDNESDAY Feb 14 @ 7pm in the Learning Commons. Buy your tickets every day at lunch at the theatre box office to enjoy an evening of fun music, refreshments and silent auction treasures. Come support our very talented students! Tickets are $15.

 

¬ ATHLETICS

Girls Soccer Tryouts

Junior girls – tryouts are TODAY and Feb 13.  See Mr. Reisig if you have a conflict.

Senior girls – tryouts are next week on Feb 13 and 15.  Please see Ms Yager if you have a conflict.

 

Badminton

If you are interested in playing badminton, the next drop-in session is THIS THURSDAY 7:00-8.30pm in the big gym. Be sure to have gym strip and indoor shoes!

 

Rugby

Rugby training will be WEDNESDAYS and THURSDAYS, 3:30pm - 4:30pm. Anyone and everyone are welcome to join or to just give it a go. See you guys out there.

 

NEW - Indoor Soccer: Spartan Soccer Showdown

Are you interesting in playing indoor soccer and meeting new people? Then, the Leadership students who are running the "Spartan Soccer Showdown" want you to sign up. You will see the QR codes on posters around the school and the link has also been posted on the Claremont Instagram. Please see Mr. Dunlop if you have any questions.

Math Club

Sign up for the Pascal/Cayley/Fermat math contests on the bulletin board outside room133.  These are the easiest of all the University of Waterloo math contests, so they are good ones to try if you have never tried one before.  See Mr. Skanks for details.

UBC Med Outreach Ambassador Program – Feb. 6

UBC Med Outreach Ambassador Program reps will be visiting Claremont TODAY at lunch in Room 215.  Come by to find out more about careers in medicine and pathways to becoming a medical doctor.

 

Butchart Gardens Job Fair – Feb. 7

Butchart Gardens is hosting a Job Fair TOMORROW (WEDNESDAY), 5:30pm-7:30pm at Butchart Gardens. Butchart’s will be recruiting for spring and summer employment in most departments. Bring your resume!  Free entrance to the Job Fair, but not into the gardens.

 

Camosun Info Session – Feb. 7

The Arts & Science Department at Camosun College is hosting an info session TOMORROW (WEDNESDAY), 6:30pm - 7:30 pm. Info will cover:

- The Digital Production, the Writing and Design Programs

- The Digital Communication Program

- The Comics & Graphic Novels Program

NEW - Canadian Armed Forces – Feb. 8

Recruitment officers from the Canadian Armed Forces will be visiting CLE classes THIS THURSDAY, February 8. They'll also be available to meet with any other students at lunch time in the Career Centre (Room 217), to answer questions you may have.

 

Camosun Student Service Fair – Feb. 13

Camosun is hosting a Student Service Fair at the Interurban Campus on TUESDAY February 13th from 5pm-7pm. This is a great chance to explore the range of services available and partake in some mini-tours of the facilities. Registration isn't required - just show up!

 

¬ NEWS FROM CLAREMONT PAC

Planning for New PAC Exec

As we plan ahead - the AGM to vote for the new CPAC Exec for the 2024/25 school year will take place in May. This year we have 3 Exec members leaving with students in grade 12 graduating. We have begun our recruitment early!

 

See the link below for the CPAC Constitution which details high-level the different roles. Please reach out to claremontpacsd63@gmail.com if you’re interested. The team is open to discussing any details to help fulfill these roles. Please note that the time commitment is significantly less vs. Elementary or Middle School PACS, which will help with parent busy schedules.

Here is an easy way to support your PAC year-round. Save your Country Grocer receipts and bring them to the school front office.  We appreciate your participation in this fundraiser, which will benefit our school community with up to $2000 in grocery gift cards.

Peninsula Youth Clinic

 

The Peninsula Youth Clinic is located at 2379 Bevan Avenue in Sidney and is open every THURSDAY from 5:30-7:30pm for help with any medical concern (physical, mental, and sexual health). Call 250-656-4143 to make an appointment with a physician or counsellor.  Services are 100% free, confidential, and explicitly inclusive of all genders and sexualities!
