Course Information Evening - Feb 22
TONIGHT we will be hosting our Claremont Course Information Evening from 5:00-8:30pm. This evening will provide opportunities for:
- Gr 8-11 students & parents (Gr 8’s making the transition from ROMS to Claremont) to learn about and make informed decisions regarding course selection for the 2024-25 school year.
- Current Gr 9-12 parents to meet Sem 2 teachers at various points throughout the evening; most teaching staff will be present from 6:00-8:00pm in their classrooms, unless they are involved in one of our presentations.
We will be providing a wide variety of general course selection information & reminders, as well as specialty program and CSI academy information, with the following schedule:
5:00-5:30pm Out of Catchment Registration Info (for Students/Families New to the District) in the Theatre
5:45-6:30pm CSI Info Meeting (general intro + split into 4 academies: Lacrosse, Rowing, Golf, Swimming) that starts in the Theatre
6:45-7:30pm Grade 8 Student/Parent Info Session (Theatre)
Grade 9-11 Student/Parent Info Session (Big Gym)
7:45-8:05pm Specialty Program Discussion:
PEP (Learning Commons); FOFA (Theatre); IGS (Room 264)
8:10-8:30pm Specialty Program Discussion REPEATED:

Meet the Teachers – Feb.22
Meet the Teachers Night will be TONIGHT, 6:00-8:00pm. **Students, remember to give a copy of your class schedule to your parents, included class subject, room number, and teacher name.**
If families have any downtime in between Course Selection sessions, they are encouraged to meet & check in with members of our teaching staff who will be stationed in their regular teaching classrooms. **These meetings are designed to connect and learn about course overviews/expectations (as opposed to discussing individual student learning needs). Student-specific discussions can take place at the Parent/Teacher Conferences on April 25th.
NEW - 2024-2025 Course Selection Forms
Course selection forms for next year will be handed out to our current grade 9, 10 & 11 students TODAY in morning assemblies. We encourage families to have thoughtful conversations about course choices before making selections. Please be sure about your choices before submitting your form. Deadline to return forms is FRIDAY March 1.
Application Forms for Programs of Choice (Claremont Sports Institute) and Specialty Programs (Pursuit of Excellence, Institute for Global Solutions, Pursuit of Excellence, Linear Dance and Basketball Performance) are available on the Claremont website on the Registration page (click on the Registration Quick Link). Applications for Programs of Choice/Specialty Programs) are also due by FRIDAY March 1 (attached to a Course Selection Form).
Dance Program Clothing
The dance program is doing one last clothing order for the year. If any past dancers would like to order something, please see Ms. Giordano or Ms. Tresidder THIS WEEK.
Pink Shirt Day – Feb.28
Pink Shirt Day is WEDNESDAY Feb 28. Please support Claremont's commitment to a bully-free environment by wearing and ‘thinking’ pink. Let’s join together and visibly show our support for a more inclusive, accepting and compassionate society. Practice kindness and wear pink to symbolize that you do not tolerate bullying.
After School Homework Club
For all students who would like extra help in academic classes, help from Education Assistants is available four days a week (MONDAY-THURSDAY) for one hour after school in room 235. All academic subjects are welcome, but especially if you are struggling in Math & Science. This is open to all students in all grades.
Regional South Island Skills Canada Competitions
Registration for this year's Regional South Island Skills Canada Competitions will be open soon! Online or face-to-face competitions will be held, covering areas like automotive, baking, hairstyling, welding, electronics, pipe trades, job search, photography, and more... Competitions will be in March, with the deadline for registration mid-February. See Mr. Bussoli in the Career Centre (Room 217) if you are interested in competing.

NEW - Badminton
Badminton players: the next practice is TOMORROW (FRIDAY) after school 3:15-5pm in the big gym. Tryouts will happen during the drop-in that day if you are interested in playing for the school team.
NEW - Boys Rugby
All boys rugby players: please come to Mr Belvedere's room (134) TODAY at lunch to pick up your player package. These must be returned in order to play in our first scrimmage games next Tuesday.
NEW - Golf Team
For all golfers interested in trying out for the Golf Team: there is an important meeting on WEDNESDAY, February 28th at the beginning of lunch in the Textiles room (276). The meeting starts at 11:55am so please be on time. If you are unable to attend, please see Mr. Ryan in the PE office at lunch time any day before the meeting.

Volunteer Opportunity - Inspire Cup International Gymnastics Competition
The Inspire Cup International Gymnastics Competition is looking for volunteers. This event will be at the Victoria Convention Centre March 1-3. Volunteer positions are available in the following areas: athlete registration, volunteer check-in, and/or being access monitors. Each volunteer gets free admission to the competition for the entire day that they volunteer.

Peninsula Emergency Measures Organization (PEMO) – March Field Trip Alert!
PEMO is hosting an open house at the Sidney Fire Hall in March. Date is still to be determined, but it will be a day of learning what life is like working in emergency response and what career and volunteer opportunities are available. Planning for New PAC Exec As we plan ahead - the AGM to vote for the new CPAC Exec for the 2024/25 school year will take place in May. This year we have 3 Exec members leaving with students in grade 12 graduating. We have begun our recruitment early!
See the link below for the CPAC Constitution which details high-level the different roles. Please reach out to claremontpacsd63@gmail.com if you’re interested. The team is open to discussing any details to help fulfill these roles. Please note that the time commitment is significantly less vs. Elementary or Middle School PACS, which will help with parent busy schedules.

The Peninsula Youth Clinic is located at 2379 Bevan Avenue in Sidney and is open every THURSDAY from 5:30-7:30pm for help with any medical concern (physical, mental, and sexual health).
