All students interested in any of the following Dual Credit Courses, come to a very important meeting TOMORROW (WEDNESDAY) at lunch in the theatre.

NEW – Food Drive May 6-10

FILL BUCK'S TRUCK Food drive is happening May 6-10 in Block 1 classes. Please donate to the Mustard Seed; bring canned food and personal hygiene products in your Block 1 class. Cash is also accepted. The winning class gets a Breakfast party!

 

Blood Donor Clinic – May 13

Claremont will be hosting a blood drive on MONDAY May 13 in the small gym, 10:00-4:45. It is open to eligible students aged 17 years or older, staff, and the public.  The sign-up for appointment times is all done through Canadian Blood Services - on the app, on the website or by phone. For questions, please see Ms. Chapman in the math wing.  Book your appointment at blood.ca

 

New School Bus Registration Information

If you plan to ride the school bus next year, there is new information about FEES and registration.  Please see all information on the SD63 website Transportation page: saanichschools.ca/resources/studentsfamilies/transportation.  

 

After School Homework Club

For all students who would like extra help in academic classes, help from Education Assistants is available four days a week (MONDAY-THURSDAY) for one hour after school in room 235. All academic subjects are welcome. This is open to all students in all grades.

 

Studio 63 Hair Salon

Saanich School District's Studio 63 Hair Salon, is now open!  See HERE for poster.  Book your appointment with one of the awesome Hair Program students, for a haircut or style. Claremont Musical Theatre Presents: “Anything Goes”… May 23 - June 1

Performance dates are May 23-25 and May 29 – June 1 at 7 pm.

Congratulations to Jaden THOM for winning GOLD at the Junior ‘A’ Provincial Championship in Badminton Men Singles this past weekend.

Also, shoutout to Tye WILLIAMS and Marcus LIANG for finishing in 4th place at the Junior City Championship in boys doubles. Go Spartans!!

Scholarships – Application Deadline April 30

Grads: The District and Schools Scholarships Online Application Portal closes at the end of TODAY.  Over $60,000 in scholarships and bursaries are available to grade 12s planning to enter post-secondary institutions.  To apply, go to the Scholarships page on the Claremont website.  Detailed information about each scholarship can be found there, as well in the District and School Scholarships Handbook.

 

Grad 2024 Fundraiser – 50/50 Draw

Please assist the 2024 grad class by participating in the online 50/50, which runs April 15 - May 10. Thank you for your ongoing support. The draw will be FRIDAY May 10 @ 3pm. The link is HERE to buy tickets.

 

Magic Wand

The Magic Wand is a non-profit organization that offers an inexpensive and eco-friendly alternative to grad outfits for any students. This is a great opportunity to borrow, rather than buy, a complete special outfit for graduation. The only cost to the student is a small fee which covers the cost of cleaning.  Please contact Elizabeth Suresus to view her selection of grad dresses, suits, tuxedos, shoes, and accessories.

Summer Job Opportunity

Cordova Bay United Church (around the corner from Claremont) is looking for a motivated, hardworking, flexible young person, who can work independently, as a Programs Assistant under the federal government’s Canada Summer Jobs program. The position involves office administration, working with children and youth, utilizing electronic communication techniques, as well as special projects.

Duration of job: June 3-August 30. $19/hour for 30 hours work per week. The training hours required during June might be able to be flexible. Application deadline: May 15.  See Mrs. Watson in the Career Centre or email her at cwatson@saanichschools.ca for more info.

Island Ignite Summer Event: July 12-14

Are you interested in being a Firefighter and want to test it out? Female students going into Grades 11 and 12 are invited to join a two-day, hands-on event in Victoria, July 12-14. Applications are being accepted now!  Visit the Career Centre for more information and to apply.

 

Health X-Ploration Day in May

If you are considering a career in the Health Care Industry, sign up for a field trip to Camosun College, for a Health 'X-ploration' Day! Students will explore dual credit pathways in various health programs including practical nursing, health care assistant, medical radiography and certified medical lab assistant. Event dates are either May 15 OR May 28. Date/times will be determined, based on interest and attendance numbers.  See Mr. Bussoli in the Career Centre to sign up!

 

Saanich Police Youth Leadership Certificate! July/August

The District of Saanich’s Youth Division is pleased to announce the Saanich Police Youth Leadership Certificate. In this hands-on program, mentors help students gain leadership skills to put towards future employment or post-secondary education. The program is perfect for youth who are interested in future work in a community setting, human services role, or as a first responder with Police, Fire, Ambulance, or the Coast Guard.

The program takes place in the summer all day, on July 10 OR August 14. APPLY NOW, as this program fills up fast!  Come to the Career Centre for more info, or email Mrs. Watson at cwatson@saanichschools.ca

Science Rendezvous STEM Festival – May 11

Science Rendezvous is one of Canada’s largest, FREE, one-day STEM festivals. This event is a great opportunity for students and families of all ages to engage in science in a fun and interactive way

Science Rendezvous is hosted by UVic, Camosun College, and Ocean Networks Canada, and offers students K-12, educators, and science enthusiasts of all ages the opportunity to engage in hands-on STEM learning by participating in 35+ activities side-by-side with real, world-renowned scientists, engineers, mathematicians, and computer and software experts who live right here in Victoria. 

Walk through a state-of-the-art greenhouse, peer at the stars using the largest telescope on any Canadian university campus, demo the latest tech for renewable energy, investigate a human skeleton to uncover who they once were, experiment with lasers, explore the ocean…there’s science galore at Science Rendezvous!

The Peninsula Youth Clinic is located at 2379 Bevan Avenue in Sidney and is open every THURSDAY from 5:30-7:30pm for help with any medical concern (physical, mental, and sexual health). Call 250-656-4143 to make an appointment with a physician or counsellor.  Services are 100% free, confidential, and explicitly inclusive of all genders and sexualities!
