¬ GENERAL ANNOUNCEMENTS

Parent/Teacher Conferences April 25

Parent-Teacher conferences will be held TONIGHT, 5:00-7:00pm.  All conferences will be in person.  Appointments are open for booking; full instructions are under “Upcoming School Events” on the Claremont website at the bottom of the home page and have been emailed to families via School Messenger. Conferences fill up fast so book early.  Online bookings close TODAY at 10:00 am.  We are not able to book any appointments after the schedule closes.

Blood Donor Clinic – May 13

Claremont will be hosting a blood drive on MONDAY May 13 in the small gym, 10:00-4:45. It is open to eligible students aged 17 years or older, staff, and the public.  The sign-up for appointment times is all done through Canadian Blood Services - on the app, on the website or by phone. For questions, please see Ms. Chapman in the math wing.  Book your appointment at blood.ca

 

New School Bus Registration Information

If you plan to ride the school bus next year, there is new information about FEES and registration.  Please see all information on the SD63 website Transportation page: saanichschools.ca/resources/studentsfamilies/transportation.  

 

Skills Canada Winner

Congratulations to Alexia SOGAI for winning Skills Canada Regionals (in March), AND Skills Canada Provincials on April 17, with the GOLD MEDAL in both competitions, in Graphic Design!  Alexia has won the right to represent British Columbia for the Skills Canada National Competition, being held in Quebec City at the end of May.

 

After School Homework Club

For all students who would like extra help in academic classes, help from Education Assistants is available four days a week (MONDAY-THURSDAY) for one hour after school in room 235. All academic subjects are welcome. This is open to all students in all grades.

 

Studio 63 Hair Salon

Saanich School District's Studio 63 Hair Salon, is now open!  See HERE for poster.  Book your appointment with one of the awesome Hair Program students, for a haircut or style. Claremont Musical Theatre Presents: “Anything Goes”… May 23 - June 1

Performance dates are May 23-25 and May 29 – June 1 at 7 pm. 

Additional matinees May 25th and June 1st at 1 pm.  All tickets are $17.50 in advance or $20 at the door. Purchase tickets through your SD63 online account LINK or in person at the accounting office.  For questions, please call Mrs. Waller at 250-658-5221 ext. 81572.

NEW - Rugby – Scrum Fest April 25 & 26

Scrum Fest runs TODAY and FRIDAY. There will be plenty of good rugby action on both the upper and lower fields all day.  Thank you to classes who are able to support our Spartan rugby players over our two-day event.  You can also support the team by getting some food from our concession on the track.  Burgers, hot dogs, chips, drinks, and candy.  Cash only please.  Find the concession at the bottom of the stairs next to the upper field.

Grad 2024 Spring Social Event – May 2

Attention grads! A spring social game night has been planned for May 2 in the Learning Commons from 7:00-9:30pm. There will be all sorts of games, snacks, and lots of fun!! Please RSVP by April 29. Sign-up is on your Grad 2024 Google Classroom.

Scholarships – Application Deadline April 30

Attention Grads: The District and Schools Scholarships Application Portal is open.  Over $60,000 in scholarships and bursaries are available to grade 12s planning to enter post-secondary institutions.  Applications will be accepted online until April 30th.  To apply, go to the Scholarships page on the Claremont website.  Detailed information about each scholarship can be found there, as well in the District and School Scholarships Handbook.

 

Grad 2024 Fundraiser – Online Silent Auction – April 11-26

This year's grads are looking forward to a dinner & dance at the brand new event space Sngequ House at the University of Victoria at the end of June. All proceeds from this auction will go to supporting the costs of this and other year-end celebrations for our 2024 graduates.

Magic Wand

The Magic Wand is a non-profit organization that offers an inexpensive and eco-friendly alternative to grad outfits for any students. This is a great opportunity to borrow, rather than buy, a complete special outfit for graduation. NEW – Saanich Police Youth Leadership Certificate!

The District of Saanich’s Youth Division is pleased to announce the Saanich Police Youth Leadership Certificate. In this hands-on program, mentors help students gain leadership skills to put towards future employment or post-secondary education. The program is perfect for youth who are interested in future work in a community setting, human services role, or as a first responder with Police, Fire, Ambulance, or the Coast Guard.

CiCAN World of Choices Summit – May 9

Are you wondering what Career to pursue?  Sign up for the CiCan World of Choices Summit!  Through hands-on activities, students will have an opportunity to explore a variety of trades and technology career pathways, such as: Electrical, Pipe Trades, Carpentry, Computer Science, Sheet Metal, Automotive, Electronics, and Fine Furniture!  Event Outline  Event is on THURSDAY, May 9 (whole school day) at Camosun College - Lansdown Campus.  Lunch is provided!  Space is limited, so see Mr. Bussoli in the Career Centre as soon as possible to sign up.

The Peninsula Youth Clinic is located at 2379 Bevan Avenue in Sidney and is open every THURSDAY from 5:30-7:30pm for help with any medical concern (physical, mental, and sexual health). Call 250-656-4143 to make an appointment with a physician or counsellor.  Services are 100% free, confidential, and explicitly inclusive of all genders and sexualities!
