¬ GENERAL ANNOUNCEMENTS

NEW - Literacy and Numeracy Assessments – April 16 & 17

Literacy and Numeracy assessments are THIS WEEK: TUESDAY and WEDNESDAY.  All Math 10 classes (with the exception of Workplace 10) will be writing Numeracy 10, and all English 12 classes will be writing Literacy 12.

Revised Class Schedule

To properly schedule these assessments, the entire school will follow a Copernican class schedule consisting of two long blocks per day. 

TUESDAY April 16

Block 1: 9:00 – 11:45  (Lit/Num Assessments: 9:00 – 12:00)

Block 3: 12:30 – 3:12  (Lit/Num Assessments: 12:30 – 3:30)

WEDNESDAY April 17

Block 2: 9:00 – 11:45  (Lit/Num Assessments: 9:00 – 12:00)

Block 4: 12:30 – 3:12  (Lit/Num Assessments: 12:30 – 3:30)

 

Zero Café

Reminder that the Zero Café is open in the mornings before block 1 and at lunch in the IGS room, selling Level Ground coffee, tea, and treats. The proceeds from sales go to IGS and help pay for field trips. Thank you for supporting IGS.

 

Blood Donor Clinic – May 13

Claremont will be hosting a blood drive on MONDAY May 13 in the small gym, 10:00-4:45. It is open to eligible students aged 17 years or older, staff, and the public.  The sign-up for appointment times is all done through Canadian Blood Services - on the app, on the website or by phone. For questions, please see Ms. Chapman in the math wing.  Book your appointment at blood.ca

 

New School Bus Registration Information

If you plan to ride the school bus next year, there is new information about FEES and registration.  Please see all information on the SD63 website Transportation page: saanichschools.ca/resources/studentsfamilies/transportation.  

 

Yearbooks : Deadline To Order is April 15

The deadline to order and pay is the end of TODAY.   If you are unsure as to whether you have ordered a yearbook, please check with Ms. Waller in the Accounting office. Lots of students wait until it is too late to buy a yearbook, then they are disappointed in June when they are sold out.

 

After School Homework Club

For all students who would like extra help in academic classes, help from Education Assistants is available four days a week (MONDAY-THURSDAY) for one hour after school in room 235. All academic subjects are welcome. This is open to all students in all grades.

This announcement is a little late, but big congratulations to our rugby teams, who played in the Westshore Sevens Tournament just before Spring Break.  Our Spartans had excellent results!

¬ GRAD 2024

Completed Grad Package Due April 18

If any grads missed the assembly last week, please come to the office to pick up your important grad package. Reminder that all forms and payment are due back by THIS THURSDAY April 18 to Mrs. Waller in the Accounting office.

 

Scholarships – Application Deadline April 30

Attention Grads: The District and Schools Scholarships Application Portal is now open.  Over $60,000 in scholarships and bursaries are available to grade 12s planning to enter post-secondary institutions.  Applications will be accepted online until April 30th.  To apply, go to the Scholarships page on the Claremont website.  Detailed information about each scholarship can be found there, as well in the District and School Scholarships Handbook.

 

Magic Wand

The Magic Wand is a non-profit organization that offers an inexpensive and eco-friendly alternative to grad outfits for any students. This is a great opportunity to borrow, rather than buy, a complete special outfit for graduation. The only cost to the student is a small fee which covers the cost of cleaning.  Please contact Elizabeth Suresus to view her selection of grad dresses, suits, tuxedos, shoes, and accessories.

Grad 2024 Fundraiser – Online Silent Auction OPEN!

This year's grads are looking forward to a dinner & dance at the brand new event space Sngequ House at the University of Victoria at the end of June. All proceeds from this auction will go to supporting the costs of this and other year-end celebrations for our 2024 graduates.

NEW - Royal Canadian Navy – Day Sail May 7

Come along for a day sail on the Royal Canadian Navy's HMCS Nanaimo!  This field trip will be on TUESDAY, May 7, all day.  This day at sea will be fun and meaningful for students; they will get to interact with the crew and picture what it’s like to be in the Navy!  Come to the Career Centre (Room 217) to sign up, as soon as possible.

 

NEW - CiCAN World of Choices Summit – May 9

Are you wondering what Career to pursue?  Sign up for the CiCan World of Choices Summit!  Through hands-on activities, students will have an opportunity to explore a variety of trades and technology career pathways, such as: Electrical, Pipe Trades, Carpentry, Computer Science, Sheet Metal, Automotive, Electronics, and Fine Furniture!  Event Outline   THURSDAY, May 9 (whole school day) at Camosun College - Lansdown Campus.  Lunch is provided!  Space is limited, so see Mr. Bussoli in the Career Centre as soon as possible to sign up.

 

IMAGINING UVic Math Summer Camp for Girls

Are you a girl entering Grade 11 or 12 next year, and you love MATH?  Then apply for IMAGINING UVic (Inspiring Mathematical Growth and Intuition in Girls)!  At this summer camp, you'll learn new and exciting math concepts which go beyond the BC curriculum. Participants will also have various opportunities to interact with professors and graduate students in mathematics.  Deadline to apply is April 19, in order to be considered. Elk Lake Farm is Hiring for Farm Labour!  Jobs include: Weeding and taking care of the organic vegetable garden; shoveling; and picking fruit. This job suits someone who enjoys exercise in the outdoors, and is interested in learning how to grow food.

Peninsula Youth Clinic

The Peninsula Youth Clinic is located at 2379 Bevan Avenue in Sidney and is open every THURSDAY from 5:30-7:30pm for help with any medical concern (physical, mental, and sexual health). Call 250-656-4143 to make an appointment with a physician or counsellor.  Services are 100% free, confidential, and explicitly inclusive of all genders and sexualities!
